The Official: I love my Galaxy S5 thread

If the rumors are true the only thing I'd want is the 3GB of RAM. The 801 chip is perfectly fine and so is the screen. TouchWiz demands a lot of RAM so 3 GB should have been standard.

Left the iPhone 5s for the Galaxy s5 and I couldn't be happier. I too have had just about every phone there is and I can honestly say the s5 is by far the best I've owned. Here's a few personal reasons for me.
Best screen I've seen on a phone, was holding the m8 side by side and it just popped more to me.
Awesome battery
Best camera I've used on a phone.
Loads of storage
It's fast...opening and loading apps is instant. Camera shutter, Navigating the phone in general etc
It's light weight in the pocket and although it's plastic doesn't feel cheap by a long shot.
TouchWiz is toned down a lot & is much much smoother than before. I like the color and life it brings to android. Turning off options I don't want on takes 2 seconds. Nice to have them if needed tho.
Best keyboard I've used.
it's waterproof ...I'm not a scuba diver but the peace of mind is great.

Probably forgetting a few but those are a few main reasons for me.

I love my S5. Just got it two days ago, love the way they redid the OS. I love the watercolor effect on my lockscreen. Camera is so much better, however I haven't had a chance to try it out due to being at work so much. I think that when I was listening to music yesterday (and this was one of the things I hated with the S4) my noti sound played OVER the music and didn't force it to pause, but I could be wrong. I got the white phone because I fell in love with the pearl color on the back.

I will even be interested if the iPhone 6 can catch up in every way to all the other phone now on the market (too bad iPhone stuck with that one size screen fits all mentality for so long, that really killed the iPhone).
The issue with iPhone is that their OS is on ONE phone, ONE brand, and its always the same damn thing with slightly different features. Android has many different flavors (haha, flavors) on a bunch of different brands of phone. If I don't like the OS on one Android (which I can say has never happened) I can always switch phones or form factors. With iPhone, you're stuck with one size and one shape.

I've had used my S5 for 2 weeks so far and have to say I really like it. I love the feel of it as well. I went from an iphone 4S to S4 and to S5. I notice the a huge speed difference between S4 and S5 and better battery life.

I considered the S5 but with only 10 GB of available internal memory, The Note 3 has 26 GB available... I went with the Note 3!.. it still holds it own especially with 3 gigs of ram, its a true power horse.

I agree with everything except the animations "feel" laggy and delayed....And this really drive me nuts...It is not about those miliseconds or even seconds/minutes (lol) it is about a frustrated feel one gets using a 2014 flagship
Did you miss that this is a dedicated "positive" thread?

I've noticed the speed from my Droid 4. I feel this is really fast. Updating apps are fast, too. And so much better battery life.

Re: the Official: I love my Galaxy S5 thread

I am shell shocked. Swapped my LG5500 clam shell for the S5 this past Friday. Talk about a learning curve! I realized this morning it is just like setting up a custom PC. Wallpaper to change, junk apps to delete, tweaks to learn, new passwords to remember, etc, etc. Just like a PC loaded an AV and the Heartbleed detector. Even had to do a recovery and clear cache to get the ear speaker working again.

Just ordered a charging pad and the charging antenna so I don't run the chance of breaking the USB cover.

Good thing I am retired so I have plenty of time. :-)

Is clearing the cache something you should do periodically? What does it delete? How do you do it? Just curious if this keeps things smooth by deleting random junk you don't need any longer.

No need to clear the cache unless it's not working. It's like the RAM, no need to clear anything unless it doesn't clear or stop on its own most apps do. I only have one (Amazon cloud player) That I have to force stop.

This S5 works great in that sense. I use mine a lot and it still works great.

I did notice better performance and battery life after I quit killing the open apps.

Re: the Official: I love my Galaxy S5 thread

It is like booting into command line mode on a Windows PC. Try booting into recovery by making sure the phone is powered off (pull the battery, wait a few seconds, then put it back in). Then press and hold power, home and volume UP. Hold all three buttons until the Samsung logo appears, then release all three buttons. If it worked there will be a tiny blue text line at the top of the screen. Be very careful what options you select. :)

Re: the Official: I love my Galaxy S5 thread

I've had mine for 2 weeks and can't believe the difference between the s3 and s5. There was an adjustment time, getting used to the new way everything is laid out, but I have no complaints at all, love this phone.

Re: the Official: I love my Galaxy S5 thread

I really like the dedicated number row as well. It took a little while for me to get used to having numbers already on the keyboard since I was so used to having to shift to get numbers. This may not be a huge detail on why I love my s5 but it certainly is convenient.

Re: the Official: I love my Galaxy S5 thread

I totally agree. I have had many high end phones over the years but to me the s5 is the best. I thought about other phones when I up graded a month or so ago but I am so glad I chose the s5.

Re: the Official: I love my Galaxy S5 thread

This needs to be a sticky.

I posted this elsewhere, but I still love my S5 for these reasons so I'm copying and pasting:

I've had mine since launch day and love it. No major problems. Not really any minor problems either.

I love the swipe keyboard on this. More accurate then my Droid 4.
Camera takes great pictures.
Battery life is exceptional.
Love having the camera in the lock screen.
Finger lock is easy and quick. Not the most accurate all the time, but I still like it and will use it.

There's probably more but those are my favorite of the S5 so far.

I like how you say 'sticky' with that being said I went back to my iPhone 5 for about a day and hate it now.

I went back a few times to the iPhone 5s from my Note 3 and S5 and also did not last long with the 5s.

With that being said though I am very curious to see the iPhone 6 when it comes out.

I'm not married to either Android or Apple,,,, I love my iPads more than my Android tablets but love my Galaxy S5 more than than the iPhones.

The main gripe I always had with iPhones is that tiny little 4" screen,, but with the bigger iPhone screen sizes and Apple now incorporating some of the better Android OS features with iOS 8 the iP6 does have me very interested.

Cheers
Davyo

So for all the S5 users that have now had their phones for a month or two... are your feelings the same? Does the phone still perform well, or do you now have problems with freezing, restarting, lag, battery drain, camera software problems, needing replacement devices...?

The aforementioned issues are why I recently told myself I'm giving up on droids and moved to an iphone 5s... but after only a week of ownership, I am having buyer's remorse and missing everything droid has to offer, but not necessarily the headaches I've dealt with in the past (above issues). I have a few days left to return this iphone and in my heart I know I am a droid guy, but it's hard to find solace in reliability when so many posts are still so negative about issues with the S5... that is precisely why I am asking this here in this (positive) forum. Thanks!
