The Official Release Date Speculation Thread

Just called my Best Buy (Store #311 - I'm the 2nd one to pre-order out of 5 people lol) and they're sticking to their release date of February 14th.

The phone call went like this:

Me: "Hi, I pre-ordered the HTC Thunderbolt on Sunday and was given a release date but I can't seem to remember it and it's not listed on the page in the ad. Do you when I can pick it up?"

Her: "Yeah, the Thunderbolt is going to be ready for pickup this Monday."

Me: "Monday, February 14th?"

Her: "Yup"

Me: "Ok, awesome! Do I need an appointment or something or can I just pick it up?"

Her: "We'll give you a call this Sunday to confirm your pickup for Monday then anytime on Monday you can pick it up."

Me: "Ok thanks again. Have a good day (yada, yada, yada lol)"

But that's what I was told, twice now. I don't believe it was pushed back for some reason, it doesn't seem like it is.

Maybe I'm just tired of all the pushing and moving, no one is sure what's real or not since there's a leak almost everyday.

Well take this FWIW but my Best Buy said expect it late Feb or early March.
You BB maybe not have the recent info/changes...
Of course I could be being a negative nancy. Just don't get your hopes too high

I preordered

I see that folks keep saying that no one promised the phone to be released this month. I beg to differ. I preordered the phone and was told it would be there on Monday the 14th for me to pick up. I consider the receipt with preorder written on it a promise.
Any chance Verizon wants to use us to test the network out a little before they do the full release? It was odd, the way the preorder was in the sales circular, if I did not lurk on android central I would have missed it.

Ok,

I used Google Sync to get my BlackBerry contacts to gmail. Went into Google Calendar and made a calendar ready to sync.

Told my BBM contacts that I'll now be on Google Talk.

Have my Google Voice # and SMS set up.

Saved a list of apps to install on appbrain.

Got Keeper app on BlackBerry set up with my PWs, ready to install and sync on Android.

Have wallpaper, music ready.

Where is my Android already!?!? I'm all set!!!!

Not to be one of the many.. But I may just get an iphone, I was sold on getting the Thunderbolt. Been waiting since November (had my upgrade since than) preordered it yesterday, but with no idea for a launch date now the iphone is looking better.. My gut tells me it wont come out untill March or April and I refuse to wait that long (I've waited long enough) I am going to do some research tonight and try to decide by tomorrow..

The iPhone is a great phone for many. It's just not for me. I have been up for a new phone since March 2010...that's 11 LONG months! And to be absolutely honest, for a lot of that time I was actually waiting for a Verizon iPhone. But after researching/searching/waiting for several months it became more and more clear that what I wanted was in the Android line of phones. I was set to get a Dinc back in November but wanted to see what CES offered...and the Bolt was enough for me to wait it out. I really hope the Bolt isn't pushed out too much further, but regardless I would rather wait on one of the newer Android phones than go with the current iPhone offering. This is a phone you will live with for at least 10 months assuming the 1 yr contract I will be going for. For most people it is a 20 month relationship. For the sake of a few weeks....I'll wait it out and will be much happier for it.

Now, if they decide to get crazy with this delay and we are talking 6 weeks from now....oh stop...let's not even put those thoughts in my head....

What would be the big deal to do this "soft launch" for those of us that preordered, followed immediately (in conjunction) with an announcement at MWC on Monday? How many of us could there really be? That would give them some time to make sure they had a handle on the iPhones and prepare for round 2 (Thunderbolt purchasers).

Waiting to release until after all the announcements at MWC really doesn't seem like the best idea...something else may catch many peoples' eye.

If you go to the Best Buy mobile page and scroll down to the mobile resources box with different headers, select the services and support tab and click on chat. Not the easiest thing to find.

Same. I posted mine in the VZW thread. Ugh. I think I'm gunna chat to one of them and threaten to go look into the Inspire or the Atrix or something. I know VZW reps always get nervous when you mention another company's phones.

i just called bby 1-800 number spoke with mobile. so i asked an the girl actually laughed when i asked she said oh boy, basically we still have it scheduled for the 14th. we havent been told anything else yet as im looking at it in system. but just so you know we still dont no pricing or if that 14th is the actual release date as verizon hasnt made anything official.

i said yeah i follow tech blogs heavily an this is kinda scary to put down $50 an your phone is rumored to be released. she followed with yeah everyone is all about the verizon iphone right now so i guess they are waiting till that calms down.

i take it she knew about phones pretty well. or knew the situation. but like she said verizon hasnt given them. the vendor thats selling the device for them any info

I have called the 5 Bestbuy stores in the Omaha, Neb. Council Bluffs, IA, and Lincoln, Neb. area, and all say the 14th is when the phone will be ready to pick up if you preordered.

5 Stores all the same info in a 45 mile radius. I swear every Iphone i see someone holding I will refuse to acknowledge their pretentious ignorant ways. AHHH d*mn you Steve Jobs.
