AC Question

The power button on my Galaxy S6 will turn my screen off and on but only on the lock screen after it locks automatically. once i unlock the phone and open an app (such as the default txt messaging app) then hit the home key, the power button will not lock the phone back. it will take screenshots without an issue so i im pretty sure the button itself is fine.

I just brought my phone into the service tech today for a corroded microUSB port and when i got home i realized this issue had started. (he replaced the port.) is there some setting the tech may have switched on or changed to make it do this? He had also somehow enabled the googleNOW service that would open anytime you pressed the home button, i uninstalled that but it made me wonder if he did something else that would be causing this.

I have restarted the phone from the lock screen but the issue remains.

Factory reset next?

Mod Note, I will move this to the s6 forum for more visibility

The switch and the port are probably on the same board, so he may have done a sloppy repair. But if you have no legal recourse for bad repairs (it varies by country), you have no option but to find a better shop.
