The Stoopid Droid X Calendar Tricks Thread...

Three quick apps you may want to check out.

Business Calendar - Free

Business Calendar is available on the Market. It is in beta, so it is evolving, will likely have some bugs, and is very likely not feature complete at this time. However, it does improve, in some ways, the way that the Android calendar works.

There are a couple downsides. If you have multiple events that overlap, they are hard to see in the Week view (my default). It does not check to see if there is a scheduling conflict or and adjacent obligation as the very capable Blackberry calendar did. It is very limited in the number of option times you are given in the reminder box.

However, it has potential and is, for now, free!

CalenGoo - $6.19 (Android Market)

Also available on the iPhone.

Ok, for an Android Market app, it is a bit on the expensive side. However, its feature set does appear to be rather complete and far better than the Android calendar. I have not had an opportunity to play with this one yet because of the relatively new short window provided by Google for app refunds. Cutting it from 24 hours (still really not enough time to properly evaluate at app as complicated as a calendar app) to a ridiculous, brain-dead, 15 minutes, is just stupid. However, that isn't the app's fault.

Here is a review of CalenGoo:

The best calendar app for Android: Calengoo with Google Calendar | Productive Organizer

The dev pointed out to me in an email that the app can also be purchased from this web site with a 24 hour refund period:

CalenGoo - Android Apps and Tests - AndroidPIT

The downside of this site is that the price seems to be about $1 higher and it isn't a seamless process.

The downsides of Calengoo are price (already mentioned). No trial version (which is where this refund time window becomes particularly important). Others (which is why it is important to try it)?

Gemini Calendar - Free

An interesting interface. You might like it. It has more repeating appointment options than other calendars I have seen (based on the market.android.com page).

Hope this helps!

Pimlical is a very nice calendar app. Handles time zones well. Check it out from the makers of Datebk for palm. Not on the market, but at pimlicosoftware.com needs a widget still, but pretty new software. Pocket Informant looks strong too.

Anyone have a fix for this horrid date range limitation that has apparently been around forever? I have 980 Google calendar entries that I've accumulated over the years, and having only a relatively few available in the native calendar app is totally unacceptable.

I've migrated from Palm and its very nice webOS because of a dearth of available apps. At least the calendar sync worked -- if a user takes the time to make an entry on my phone or on the web, presumably he or she woulod like to keep it and view it at some point in the future.

Don't even get me started on the lack of a calendar search feature.

Thanks.
I started using CalenGoo. It's the best calendar I've found so far. The best thing about it: it allows calendar search, which is a feature I haven't found in any other calendar I've tried so far. I liked Pocket Informant beta but I don't think it had a calendar search function. So...fwiw. The only slightly annoying thing, you have to remember to select the sync function in its menu because it does not automatically sync with the Google Calendar.

I love Calendar Pad and it's free. It's the best calendar I've found if you like a weekly view and enjoy the ability to read the appointments in that view.

Agree! This needs to be fixed. I need to set the timezone information for each end of an appointment. When I travel the entire week moves. The beginning and end of a flight are in different timezones, but they should stay as I enter them.

Do any of the other calendar apps handle this?

I haven't had to enter in any of these, so I'm not sure I understand what the issue is. Do you mean that you enter each leg of the trip in as it appears on the itinerary in that each leg is in the timezone appropriate time for that leg.

For example, start in NY and leave at 10am EST, Arrive in Memphis at 11a CST (12p EST), depart Memphis at 12p CST (1p EST), arrive in Salt Lake City at 1p MST (3p EST), depart SLC at 2p MST (4p EST), arrive in Los Angeles at 3p PST (6p EST).

The itinerary normally show the local departure/arrival times for each location (at least in my experience). So, which would you be entering into your calendar?

If you are talking about appointments, are you entering them in local (yours) or their time zones?

Hmmm, I guess I'm confused. What apps/platforms have you used that do get this correct? As you use them? Could this just be an issue of trying to fit this Calendar into the habits you have from using a different one?

I'm not trying to be a smart aleck, I'm just trying to understand the issue.

OK, I just purchased CalenGoo and although I was touting the joys of CalendarPad a couple of post above, CalenGoo is by far, the best calendar I've used on Android. I can't see where anyone would need anything else in a calendar app. It has every view available and is so customizable, you can even change the font size of your entries. I know it's 6 or 7 bucks, but if you live by your calendar, it's worth it.

If you're broke (probably shouldn't own a smart phone anyway), I still think CalendarPad is a great free calendar.

Is there a "SEND TO CALENDAR" app? Say i get an email and need to place it in the calendar, is there an app that i can have that gives me the option to "Send to calendar"

I hate the calender on the X. I came from the evo though and sense has an amazing calander widget that always worked great with my personal and exchange calanders all in one. I havent been able to find anything in the market that compares yet. 4x4 month widget.
