The straws that broke the camel's back... Why the Nexus 4 isn't for me

Well, it's obvious you need to stick with iOS. Android is not for simple minded iPhone users. It does require some customization to fit your style. Your reasons for disliking Android are easily fixable with a little personalization.

I don't understand this argument. Phones were made to make our lives simpler. The pure Android OS should be a refined operating system that can be customizable as well. But there are many problems with it that become a hassle. Why do you think Android phones aren't used much in the business world? (aside from the Note 2, but the wonders of that actually come from Samsung). Sure, I may have agreed with your post a couple of years ago, but I need a more refined product now, and I can't get a Android phone without knowing that I will get a product that's going to give me a lot of headaches from time to time.

so far the only issue with me is the battery. some things (and i am not sure yet) just drain it pretty fast. but on stand bye it lasts forever! and here are some of my reasons..

google maps / streetview, "see inside" and i can;t beat the navigator it's the bomb!

the screen is crazy good! watching hd video content is beautiful..i never thought i would say that.. go watch some videos on VEVO and you will see what i mean.

all my music is up on gogle music now, i use it everywhere.

Gdrive..enough said on this one

gmail program works great! and for work i need to access older emails that go way back. not sure i can do that with iphone. it only goes back so far. it's an issue for m
the nexus 4 uses "slimport hdmi" meaning you do not need power to connect to a tv and i bring movies to watch with people on their tv's by just bringing a simple small adapter with me.

to me all these phones are the same now. even windows 8 is the same... if you can;t do one thing you can always find a work around....

You spent 30min to an hour setting up your phone one time. Then you never have to do it again. I don't understand how that is a lot of hassle. Customization does not mean continued variances. It means you set it up and it's done.

Android is just as refined as ios. Android allows you to change more and I guess that translates to less refinement to some ppl. You don't even have to change anything if you don't want to. You can use every function without touching a home screen, setting, or default preference.

Also both the "issues" bright up in the first post can be fixed 5 minutes if you know how. 10 if you don't ;-)

I managed to order a Nexus 4 but had to cancel it because Google can't even change an address. That and the whole way the launch has been handled means I haven't got much faith in buying hardware from them yet (though they are definitely getting better and the devices themselves are good - like the Nexus 7 I'm using now). A tablet is one thing but my phone is vital and to be honest the idea of walking into an Apple Store if my phone breaks makes an iPhone more appealing than a Nexus.

Other manufacturers are better but ideally I want a smaller phone (the price of the Nexus 4 was enough to sway that though). All of the other android phones with <= 4.3" screens have awful screen resolutions lower than the 3.3" Xperia Ray I have now. That and the lack of stock android means they're a no go.

Basically I want an iPhone 5 running android but NONE of the manufacturers seem to compete in that form factor. I was tempted by the RAZR M but we have the Intel version and from what I can see that basically means no ROMs that aren't based on the Motorola's.

If I'm missing something - and there is a phone like that please let me know!

I didn't bother to do all that reading. All I'll say is that's one more Nexus 4 in inventory that will enable me to buy it easier. OP, your loss is my gain.

I actually read his entire post. But this^

HTC one S is a nice smaller device. No IPS LCD though.

I think it is a fine device. If it plays into working on LTE, then I may jump.....till then, unlocked is unlocked, and a few premium devices run the latest asop......would love one, but I have the OS I need and that is all.

It's nothing with the hassle of the customization. The customization part is arguably the best part of the OS, no denying that. But there are problems with some of the core apps and what they have to offer that gets annoying from time to time. Sure, there are alternatives, but there are only a few that could match up to core apps in terms of overall usability.

A friend has one and it was almost perfect though the screen bothered me as it seemed a bit blurry with only a qHD screen. I always thought people were exaggerating about screen resolution but now I kinda see their point.

I do like the option of being able to replace the core apps though. Especially for things like SMS where a 3rd party app can be used to sync online and send over data. Or just apps running in the background in general (like downloading podcasts before you open the app). Overall I do think the core apps in general are better in iOS but Apple made the decision to limit the functionality of the OS which to be honest is the only thing that puts me off an iPhone. And if it wasn't for the apps I don't know why anyone would choose an iPad over an android tablet as surely that is where you really need the extra functionality.

I agree this was the one failure HTC did on this phone. Had they gone with the same ips screen as the one x people would be buying it by the millions.

eally want to upgrade my galaxy nexus. And for the record I did side load the aosp browser on my nexus 7. It wasn't too tricky but I prefer not to mess around with my phone. It isn't a toy the same way my tablet is.

As to the group messaging I think you are just used to thing happening one way. I would hate to have group texts work the way you described.
