I just bought me a triumph. swapped my account from my optimus. been hearing good things about the latest Triumphs. I had a chance to buy a first run triumph for 150$, but the guy said it had some screen problems. I didnt want that, i went and bought a brand new one from a target that just got a new shipment. in my use so far i notice NONE of the issues that people were complaining about when it first came out.

My optimus is getting a good home with a family member who needs it.

i guess im off to XDA forums.

see yall, you guys helped me out when I was a newbie and the rom development of the V has been great and a lot of fun

this phone was WAYYY too easy to rom.

literally, all I did was boot into download mode, rename "recovery.img" to something else, replace it with CWM, reboot into CWM, make a backup of stock rom, then install CM7.

no root, no fuss, WOW. impressed.

So...as a new adopter you may want to weigh in if you havent on the gent who is about to buy a new phone. I suggested that he stay with the OV as it is such a solid device and I had heard that the Triumph had so many issues, but I guess that may be in the past. Man I would love a bigger screen, but 300 is a lot of money when an OV can be had for 100 - it just doesnt seem three times better to me.

I came from nice high end devices and I am still surprised at how my OV can do everything they can (other than high end gaming)

Hows your signal compared to your OV? I heard its about 5 dBm less than the V, but I wonder if its really noticeable... (might be switching soon). I usually get about -95 in my room so I don't think it will matter, but hey you never know...

Actually, the smaller size is one of the things I love about the phone. It fits comfortably in the front pocket of blue jeans, without it feeling like you have a laptop in your pocket.

Anything more advanced than what the V can do I use my computer for

I'd like a larger screen (particularly more resolution) but NOT a larger phone. I love the OV's format.

the screen is a stretch, quite literally. feels expansive and roomy, my thumbs dont cover important information when using menus or while gaming or browsing.

i thought the size of the phone would be an issue, but it feels lighter and thinner than the OV (not that it IS, it just FEELS like it if you been using the V for a long time) besides having a massive screen of course.

I will tell you guys i went to the stock rom for a day to make sure of my assumptions, and yeah... the software is a huge problem.

i got less signal strength and less Mb/s on stock rom, everything was sluggish and it had random lags. the screen flickered when turning it on too.

CM7 made the entire phone actually FEEL like a high end superphone. (if your idea of "high end" still means 1GHz and 4+ inch screens) it worked flawlessly, as you would expect cyanogenmod to.


anyone who wants to get this phone, get it, go to XDA, and install the CM7 beta.

as for tethering, I dont use it anymore, but the CM7 rom only has options for USB tethering, i see nothing for wifi tether. I assumed its blocked in hardware and the devs thought it was better to not even see the menu for it.

for those that dont use tether, youll never notice a thing.

for those that DO tether. well your already going against what VM wants, so its only a matter of time before you get a device that can do it stock and start paying for it anyways like you should.

on stock 2.2 rom yes its less.

on CM7 its fine, equal to OV (i got my old OV activated with another account and was able to test side by side.

the CPU in the triumph allows it to handle the data, so even if both phones tested within 5% of each other on speedtest.net, the triumph actually DID things faster, pulled up pages, loaded the market, youtube, everything worked faster on the triumphs 3G than the OVs, even though they both tested at the same throughput

androidForums has more Triumph activity than XDA. newer CM7 and almost 100% working MIUI rom. testing it now xD

but MIUI is very quickly earning itself a permanent spot on my phone. its REALLY top notch.

You are not getting a stronger signal (unless someone cranked up the strength, which would eat up more battery), it only looks that way due to how the signal is presented to you.

which is why i used multiple runs of the Speedtest app on 3G on both phones.

you think im going to trust that one phone shows a total of 6 signal bars and the other has 4? of course thats not a fair way to tell. if the scales arent the same, the results arent. but speedtest app hitting the same servers on both phones over 3G, thats a bit more fair to show which phone might be getting stronger signal and speed.

this is what MIUI with ultimate iphone theme looks like. also every little detail from the menus to the toggles and tiny little things are themed. not to mention MIUI is one of the smoothest roms ever. no lag in any scrolling motion anywhere on the phone

the animations look like a 240Hz HDtv, with that overly smooth motion effect.

even the stock apps were rebuilt or replaced with iphone functional equalivalents. the browser is a MIUI custom app that mimics safari in almost everyway, same for the music player, contacts, dialer, sms, mail, voice dialer, notes, and more. its crazy.

if you appreciate iphones design but want androids freedom, this is the best of both worlds
