The update is coming so I unrooted and here is why....

In all honesty, my fiancee was giving me grief about it. She says that once I flash a ROM, it'll be like all of my previous phones and I'll be a flashaholic again, constantly flip flopping through different ROMs. Heh, she's right.

So, I made a deal with her that if the OTA doesn't clear up my annoyances.... IT'S ON. She already knows it's coming.

I too am on my first GN. I only noticed rotation lag, texting lag, and reception strength to be an issue out of the box. After rooting installing the 4.04 radios and custom roms I can't seem to find anything I don't like about this phone other than the really weak vibration it has. That's my biggest complaint. Don't get me wrong... I have had some roms that made my phone suck. I hope the new updates fix all the problems everyone is having seen as this phone was so hyped up and was supposed to be the best.

And I must be one of the few with minimal problems. I get no 4G and almost no 3G at home (really bad spot, very low compared to most of the neighborhood). I get decent 4G at work. I just have tasker turn on WiFi when I get home; and no problems. I updated to the pre-rooted but otherwise stock 4.0.4 ROM & radios. I also use tasker & NFC tags to turn on/off potential battery hog features, so unless I'm browsing the forums for hours, the battery lasts the whole day. Overall I've been really happy once I updated & tweaked.

My only major gripe is about the radios. Oddly enough, I didn't even have any problems with them until about two weeks ago. Now, even wifi drops out. This thing just cannot hold onto a signal of any kind. Data that is, no problems whatsoever with voice.

I have everything downloaded, and I would go ahead and break my agreement with my sweetie... but I still have like $100 on my Google prepaid card on wallet. Haven't checked recently, but I thought I read that wallet doesn't support rooted devices? I don't want to go spend $100 just for the heck of it so I can ROM it up.

After that though, I'm on it. Smartphones without data are like eunuchs. What's the point of being a man without a ding-a-ling. Yeah, I said ding-a-ling.

Running the stock pre-rooted 4.0.4 and using Google Wallet with no issues. Now, I rooted and updated the ROM before I loaded up Google Wallet. So I don't know if that makes a difference.

I think a lot of people who bought this phone on release date, does your phone was broke because of the way ice cream sandwich didn't play nice with the galaxy nexus for some reason or another. In return those customers received refurbished galaxy nexus, which made their experience even worse. Some people like refurbished items, but not me. My wife and I have the same galaxy nexus that we bought originally. And I hope I never have to get a refurbished phone or use the insurance that I paid monthly 4, because you never get a great device in return, you get a device that somebody else's used already. :(

Wallet is fine on rooted phones.. There's just a message at the top that warns you it's Unsupported Device, but it works just fine. Just be sure you never flash a hacked wallet or restore it or data to it. Always run it fresh from the rom, or install the apk if it doesn't come in your rom download.

Exactly the same here!

Not entirely true I've had to do a few insurance claims in my life and the only bad experience I've had was with my Storm. The refurbished Fascinate I received smoked my original.

Thanks for the heads up about wallet being good with root guys. Looks like I know what I'm doing tonight :D

And wyseguy... what we won't sacrifice for our ladies, eh? :p

Now I just have to figure out how to do it without her seeing me. Hmmm.

My lady just ignores my flashing at this point ;)

BTW, you can perfectly time a crap with flashing/restoring. Just saying! :D

Not really quite sure why you "unrooted" when you just need to have the stock firmware and bootloader. Those two are not the same thing. You can download rootkeeper in the market to preserve root when an update is near. Worked like a champ on my transforner.

No radio update is going to be life-changing.. Samsung radios are always going to be kinda crappy.. And if you're in a weak area you will still get dropped signals and poor battery unless you switch to CDMA only. That's just the way of it. I work in a crap area so set for 3g only unless I'm bringing my charger to work. When I get home I can switch to 4g and be pretty good (though usually on wifi at home anyway).

Moral is, don't expect any miracles from radio firmware updates.. There is only so much they can do.

Damn... how badly I wish you were wrong.

But I don't.
