The waiting for the Charge thread

runnin' a Droid Incredible with a completely smashed screen. still works fine for the most part but the screen's driving me insane. I also like HTC sense alot but the Thunderbolt and the Incredible 2 are just too underwhelming for my liking. Really into the fact that the Charge is a Droid (for whatever reason I actually don't know) and lovin' that the release is if not this Thursday, then sooner none the less.

Love the specs on the GS2 but the wait for it might be the deal breaker.. people around here are thinkin that's not gonna drop till at least June or July

Great to see someone who is so open minded. Dunno if you been on the TB forum but man do they bash Samsung. "They don't release software", "Touchwiz sucks" blah blah.
True to some extent but can be overcome with a solid dev community. I have froyo on my fascinate for over 2 months now, and using ADW, so any bashing is moot for me. And Samsung makes solid hardware.
Heres hoping for this coming Thursday....dammit :D

You know, I was just thinking about this.
Since this is a Droid branded phone, wouldn't Samsung have more incentive from Verizon to send out software upgrades? To keep up the standard of quality people expect?

ok so i have had the TB for about 5 hours and im not a fan, ill def have to root this and get a rom on here asap. but most uncomfortable of all is the button layout , including power and volume rocker. This phone was def designed for a lefty as my girlfriend pointed out and i hate the power button being on top it makes me go out of the way to lock the phone. , wish the droid charge would have come out when we thought it was going to

Next week, you can has! You'll be able to return that silly bolt and get your wonderful new Charge. :D

Congrats on the tbolt. You will get used to the layout. As far as the rom goes, I am predicting stellar odin packages in the future for the bolt.

You will be missed on the fascinate side though.

Now, as far as the charge goes, I will have to think long and hard about getting another sanding device. With as poor as their track record is for support, I just don't know if I am willing to go down that road again. I will be observing the charge with great interest though.

lol yeah i went to get the TB then went to the movies and saw HANNA, im lucky i have a patient GF she drove while i played with the phone lol

cordini,

Does odin work with htc phones? I thought odin was only for samsung phones.
Correct me if I am wrong. (I probably am wrong)

No odin doesnt work, its samsung specific program

I assume any other android device uses heimdall.

When I was in the vzw store, I was constantly pressing the menu button to return home. I'm sure you'll get used to it...but then you will have to "un" get used to it when the charge gets here.

Oh pls don't go into the TB forum and do your above post...you will get burned lol
Just pretend you have the greatest phone an you'll be alright. :D

i know ill get burned on a stake.

no heimdall is also from samsung products only

My fingers are already tapping on the desk for Thursday to get here. As soon as it's announced (if in fact it will be announced) I'll be making my way over to the nearest VZN store for a hands-on. If I'm happy with what I see I'll be an owner by Friday evening... providing it's available when I go to pick it up.

Here's another personal concern about the Charge. I'm gonna be studying abroad in Paris for the fall semester... I know the Charge isn't a global phone but how practical is it to use skype for calls (if that's even a possibility) and ect or would it be 100% completely useless over there. I know the Inc2 is a global phone but wouldn't using it over there cost a fortune? I'm hopeful things would work out with the Charge cause I'd rather grab that instead.

I think skype would still have to connect via a mobile tower through your phone abroad, so in that respect if it's not global, it won't work. WiFi would be another story, I'd imagine. If your phone could pick up WiFi I don't see why you couldn't use skype like that. Unless there's some weird thing with skype on a mobile device versus skype on a computer.

Depends what you mean by "fortune". VzW has global roaming plans -- in cahoots with Vodafone, I believe -- that are pricey compared to local prepaid options, but the tradeoff is that your US number continues to work for people calling you. To use local prepaid would require either having your Inc2 unlocked -- which VzW is unlikely to do until at least 6 mos have elapsed since you purchased the phone, or pick up a different Android device that'll work on Euro GSM/UMTS frequencies. You could get a new device like an ZTE Blade (unlocked or tied to a carrier like Orange) and sell it when you leave (if you'll be in France for a long period this may be the best choice).
