The Washing Machine and the Droid X

Took advantage of the two for one deal on the Droid X earlier this month. Set one up for me and one for my son. He came home the other night and decided to do some laundry after work. After a short while he couldn't find his phone, put two and two together and then checked the washing machine which was by then completing the cycle. So we put in rice for two days, but still some water in it. I took it apart and got the remaining water out. Cleaned up the screens and put it back together. Turned it on and the bootloader came up. Where do I start this when my PC doesn't recognize the phone on the USB connection. Can I reprogram the original system or should I just root it now? Any help appreciated. See attached picture for bootloader screen.

Exactly what's in the thread already posted. I bricked my phone the other
day and got the bootloader. Did the SBF using RSD lite as well and got it
working fine again.

did the water damage stickers on the battery and under the the battery door change colors? if they and still white and red id just send it back before the 30 days are up

Yeah, I know, I have a new DX for parts only for sale, lol. I tried RDS Lite 4.9 with sbf file but still no sign of life. I wil take it by Verizon and see if they can flash it. If not, I think the boy will have to go back to his BB.

haha just checkin

if you have insurance the phone could just "fall" out the car window :)

LOL! If the stickers did survive that I would "GASP" : ) My daughters iPod shuffle survived a wash and a dry without rice, so anything is possible:cool:

That bites! I guess no insurance, right? For others, this would be covered by the Asurion insurance plan, right?

No insurance, never needed it in the past, both very careful with our phones usually. Thanks for everybodys help.

I hate to see this happen, I've had insurance since my wife's friend dropped my old EnV into a cup of Gatoraid, lol.

True, never needed it in the past. Oh well, time to break out the BB to activate. Thanks for the help.

Make sure you call VZW or go online to have the MEID on the BB added back to that number. You can't just activate with *228. Found that out the hard way when a had to get a replacement.

Try the bag of dry rice trick to if you haven't already. Stick it in a bag of uncooked rice and this will help absorb any moisture you may have missed.

The OP said he did that for two days and still had water in it, but letting it sit in rice for a couple more days can't hurt it.

Maybe try to flash it again after a couple of days. Who knows?

Phone has 1 year manufacturer's warranty, but since he took it apart, he probably killed the stickers. If not, then just say it died while using it in the rain waiting for a ride, pos and all that and get a new one.

For real dude. He prolly hacked them into shreds.....the washer was never considered a water mark.
