The Z5 Premium

The pixel density of 806ppi together with Sony's display technology are presumably intended with VR in mind. Exciting stuff. :)

Good point on the VR idea. It might be where Sony is headed.

I ditched the Z3 for the LG G4, as I felt Sony was standing still whilst all around them seemed to be far more innovative.

It's interesting that many are criticising them for a 4K display, saying it's pointless in a hand held device, but Sony can't really win. I recall many doubters of 1080p before it became the norm, and and then the same for 2K. It's the nature of tech. that it's always being pushed further. They've also gone for the first side mounted fingerprint reader as well as losing the flaps for the IP rating (as they did in the far more incremental Z3+/Z4). Sure, I wouldn't mind a different design language, as Samsung have done, but then Samsung was notorious for being rubbish for that, so the only way was up. If they went for aluminium or plastic they'd be accused of copying HTC/LG.

If for one will be tempted by the Z5 premium if the actual performance lives up to the potential.

on the sony website they now have it so you can register for any of the Z5 phone. i'm just hoping i'll be able to use it on T-mobile/ Metropcs network.

A hybrid sized device, weighing in at 5.5" 4K display. The hardware in it is pretty respectable.

I will honestly pass on this one. Anyone who is interested though?
Extremely tempted. When I bought the Z1 I felt it ticked more boxes than any other 2013 smartphone. Didn't quite feel that way about the next two Xperias so while I tinkered with them a lot I didn't pull the trigger to upgrade. Now the Z5 is ticking all my boxes again. I feel better about this phone on paper than anything the other brands have releases in 2015. We'll see how it plays out when it's actually launched.

I have an approach to Android that a lot of forum members would likely dislike and disagree with in that I view the iPhone as the gold standard for quality, reliability, hardware design, optimization, and fine attention to detail. For me, the Xperia line has always been Android's iPhone, not Samsung in those regards. When everyone complained about the s810 thermal issues, Sony's hardware team put heat distribution built into the Z5 and eliminated it. When everyone complained about bugs on 5.02 Sony software engineers patched them in that version it while Google took until 5.11.

So why do I even use Android in the first place? Simple preference for what the OS can do for the things I use a smartphone for. I don't really have any loyalty though, the day I can't buy an Android phone that matches my quality criteria I would switch and swallow the missing capabilities.

I'm coming over from Blackberrry OS and when comparing specs, this phone made number one on my list. But I've never used any android phone, and I know that no matter what the camera on this is going to kick any Blackberry that's ever been made. I'm very interested in this phone, it looks a little more complicated to get my hands on it compared to a Samsung though.
