I'm totally all for rooting if it makes this device work fast and effectively, could you send me a link for the best way to root my xoom as don't wanna crash it or do anything to damage it if I root?anyway this can be made so it isn't laggy and I'll give it a shot?I've heard you can't rent films from android market once rooted, but I can't update video app anyway

Sure, can, to root just follow these steps: http://forum.androidcentral.com/xoo...rs-sdk-unlocking-rooting-returning-stock.html

That'll get you rooted. I'm not sure how familiar you are with fastboot or flashing images, etc. But after you're rooted & unlocked you can follow the steps here for flashing a recovery through fastboot: [Recovery] ClockworkMod 3.2.0.0 (R4c) Modded for Internal media [UPDATED 10/6] - xda-developers

Then you can follow the instructions here on how to flash the two files needed for a custom kernel: [KERNEL][AOSP]Tiamat Xoom 1.4.4 "Full Throttle Baby! 1.7Ghz" [Update: 6/2] - xda-developers

After that you'll be unlocked, rooted, with a custom kernel that's tweaked for speed (and has a working sdcard). Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,I've taken off some apps and given it another volume up and power off,and changed wallpaper seems a bit faster now,I want to root but I'm a newbie and never rooted any device, also can you get it back to stock when rooted?thanks alot for posting those links really appreciate it,sorry for being a noob, looked at lots of posts and seem confusing but there are different ones,I've already updated this to 3.1 so is this still the one I need for speed, cheers :-)
Also when they update the sdcard will there be other updates for bugs such as lag and things?

Just had a quick look at the link great step by step guide, but it says wifi only look away now?I'm wifi only!:-)

I'm such a noob can't even open a command window!!mine isn't Verizon its just a wifi xoom Motorola does that make a difference?is there any videos which will be easier to follow?seen one rooted video of 1.6gz and was really fast and smooth!had it on ebay and had it sold for ?470 but thought no I wanna see the difference when rooted could you help please when hooked up I used it with laptop not PC and didn't download drivers as it found my xoom :-)

Not made a start yet as I'm scared of messing it up,thinking of getting an Asus eee transformer are they good and quicker than the xoom?
Cheers

A lot of the guts are the same.

You don't have to worry about messing up, as long as you have the drivers installed and fastboot installed and can copy & paste you can get your Xoom back to factory.

Here's the page from Moto's site: MOTODEV > Products > Device Software

Root is the way to go. I have set cpu installed and run my at 1ghz all the time to 1.7 ghz as needed the xoom flies no lag smooth. The xoom was a good decice now its an awesome device. Don't be afraid to root just do your homework and take your time. Ask if you don't understand something the xda community is good with helping oug people in need of it. Good luck.

You can root with the method I gave you, but you absolutely MUST install the wifi kernel after. (that's on the kernel link in the earlier post).

I attempted first part and couldn't open command window lol do I go onto adb or fast boot and open command windows? Do I need drivers from moto website as It already finds my xoom on the laptop?is it the same process for the Asus eee pad?which other tablets are best to get I'm looking at the eee pad, galaxy tab any others?

Follow the guide for the command prompt, you do need the drivers because when the xoom is in different modes the PC sees it differently and needs to know how to talk to it.
