If the Wifi-only Xoom is in the neighborhood of $500 I'll get it..

$799 I might as well get a nice laptop I can carry around and get a Verizon usb modem for it if I ever really need to get 3G or 4G internet on it..

I'm sorry to break it to you, but that is just not going to happen for a very long time if ever. If the 800 dollar price for the 3G Xoom is correct (which its all but confirmed it is) then when the Wifi version drops I can see a Version with 16GB storage being in the ballpark of 600 dollars. That is the lowest I can seeing it going.

Thinking that there is a 300 dollar premium for a 3G/4G radio is just crazy.

The more interesting question is when it'll come out. Rumors place it around April, but I suspect it'd be in Motorola's best interest to release is as early as possible or are able. There needs to be a (relatively) more affordable option for them to grab a bigger consumer base. Also, it might be in their interest to drop said option before the iPad 2 drops.

Agreed. If Motorola really wants to compete, they'd have to have similar price points as the ipad (maybe even slightly lower). Otherwise, most people would ask, 'why bother' and jump straight for the ipad (1 or 2).
