Thermal Imaging apps

I've got a need for a good thermal imaging app.

My home has concrete floor and I've got a pipe leaking somewhere. It occurred to me that an IR app just might be useful for finding where the leak is.

I noted there are a bunch of IR apps, if you have used some of them, which one works best for you?

I just tried one called ThermoVisio which claims that it cannot find an IR sensor on the S5 phone.

If that's the case, then a camera app won't be very useful for true IR work.

I also have CPU-Z which tests the sensors on a phone. It does not show an IR sensor either...

Dang it, I didn't want to go buy an IR camera.

The phone has an "IR Blaster" for tv remote functions. Does that not mean it has an IR sensor?

I've done some reading whether or not the S5 has an IR sensor. Several indications that it does, but, people may be using the wrong terminology.

Monica,

I am thinking that the S5 does not have an actual Infra Red sensor.

I tested for this by using each of the thermo vision apps that I was able to download and then went into my closet and closed the door.

None of them would produce any image on the screen when my hand was placed in front of the camera's lens.

A couple of them would produce a fairly good image though of the faint light visible through the cracks in the door facing that fell upon objects in the closet.

However, my own eyes did equally as well as the apps did, sometimes better.

So, IMO all these apps are doing is filtering the available light from the camera's light sensing pixels and displaying it as brighter or colored enhanced images.

No, the S5 doesn't have thermal imaging. A 3rd party accessory came out awhile ago that could let some Android phones (2.3 and above) and some iPhones do thermal imaging, but they're all sold out on the company website right now. It's called IR-Blue and it would set a person back about $200.

Company that came out with it

Thanks a lot for that link to IR-Blue

I shall follow them for a while and maybe buy their product.
