Thin but Durable Case?

Right now I have the Otterbox Defender case and it's so bulky. I used to use Trident and loved it but it was bulky too. I will say, it was of much better quality. My husband and I have already had to have Otterbox replace them because the outer silicone got loose and we couldn't use the volume or power buttons (no, neither of us removed it often at all).

I have to have a durable case because, well, I tend to drop it. I recently ordered the Spigen Slim Armor Case from Amazon because of the fantastic reviews.

I like the fact that it's so thin but I chickened out and gave it to my husband.

I'm coming to my expert team here in the forum (we're a team.. Lol) to get tried and true recommendations for slim cases that can survive an occasional drop.
An interesting thing I did come across while researching the durability of such cases is that there is not a standardized metric in which to define what "military grade" is. Each company may define their own... Lol

I'm in clinical research and really do prefer validated standardized metrics, but that's just me. Heh.

So any input from you guys is appreciated because you've used them!

This is the one I ordered:

My hubby and I both have the otterbox symmetry. I love it! It's kind of like the defender, but all one piece, and a little thinner. I totally know what you mean about the defender's silicone layer getting stretchy, that was my biggest complaint about it on our S4's, but I haven't had any of that problem with the symmetry cover.

I have been using this Speck CandyShell Grip case since April of 2011 in some pretty harsh environments.

It survived many falls from being dragged off of a table, etc...

It will not slip out of your hands, which is my primary consideration. The grip version is not pretty. If you have to have pretty, the case is offered in 8 other flavors of decoration.

Be sure to look at each of the different variations before you order. My case is dark grey with black grip ridges, the same case ordered just last month for my wife's S5 is black with yellow grip ridges.

Magpul case. Super durable, very easy to grip. buttons are covered but still really easy to use.

I'm a big fan of the Spigen Ultra Hybrid case. Decent protection without adding a lot of bulk. Even better with a good glass screen protector. I use the Zagg InvisableShield Glass screen protector with my Spigen Ultra Hybrid case. A good combination 😉👍

Spigen Slim Armour for me in white on a black S5 and so far survived daily use and many hours of kids mode with a 2 year old who throws things instead of giving them back when asked.... He's getting better though thankfully!

UAG case hands down. It keeps a thin profile, looks good and very durable.

I have been using the spigen ultra fit case and it is my favorite case now. It is durable and just add 1mm to the bulk of your phone ! http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00JB...ag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUacUvbUpU4184757

This was the exact one I ordered but gave to my husband. I saw how thin it was and cringed at the thought of the damage I could do... Lol

That said, I do like the way it feels in my hands.

I do not see the point of the ultra thin cases. The whole point is to protect the phone from an unexpected harsh 12 g sudden stop on tile or concrete. Thin cases cannot provide that kind of protection.

The Speck CandyShell cases can, and the specific one I bought is military grade with grip edges. It is not pretty, it is meant to work and it does that very well. I have already "tested it" a couple of times.

They offer 8 different flavors of pretty w/o the grip edges though.
