Things people miss from WebOS

I thought I'd miss the keyboard and I really don't, although if my screen dies on my Evo, I'm screwed, and that's why I've always liked to have the option of a hardware keyboard. If anything at all, I miss the touchstone. Build quality I send off with fireworks and trumpets, because I was on my third Pre and even THAT refurb was damaged, so I just gave up and dealt with it.

I miss:

Tethering (no monthly charge, under the radar)

Touchstone

Keyboard

Universal Search (I know android's is more comprehensive but webOS is much quicker)

Quality Games

Not having to deal with Task Killers

Calendar (not being able to change an events' calendar affiliation after it's made as well as no custom occurrence is ridiculous)

All that being said I'm really loving my EVO and looking forward to Froyo!

Yes. Seems like there are strong opinions on both sides. Some people swear by them (battery life, better performance), and some people think they're a waste of time. I'd just like to not have to make that decision. ;)

I rescind my previous statement about universal search.

Being about to search for a place by just typing was too convenient.
Also being able to just type a web address.
I did both a lot on the Pre. There's no simple way to do either. I just made a Google Maps icon on a homescreen )':

You don't need a mirror.. Fire up the front facing camera (:

@megazac "Quality Games." Yeah I am surprised. You hear that Android has all these apps, but they are seriously lacking on their games. They do have great(non game related) apps which WebOS was lacking. There might be some awesome games on the android market but finding them is a pain in the ass.

I agree. I find it increasingly difficult to find things in the Android Market.

Here's one I miss and can't understand what anybody who programmed this bit would not have it, unless they just never thought of it:

With WebOS when in the car playing music through the bluetooth adapter plugging in headphones, and unplugging too, was seemless.
Music went straight to the wired headphones then when unlplugged straight back to the bluetooth.
With Android you have to disconnect the bluetooth manually and reconnect manually.
It just plain ignores that you plugged anything in!

One more thing beyond the things already mentioned:

Wallpaper Switcheroo. It's so nice to see a different beautiful wallpaper every time you access the phone.

I liked Dr Podder alot more then Doggcatcher.

Loved the swipe to get rid if card.

But Evo's Swype keyboard is light years better then Pre's little buttons, can never go back after using swype.

+ for Switcheroo and Music Remix player with Lyrics and all the customizations are missed as well.

Amen to that. I think I was on #5 when I switched. #5 was one that got really hot while charging, and the screen would turn yellow in several places. Considering the physical issues Id had with the previous 4 I just dealt with it.

I miss waiting 2 minutes for my contact list to come up so that I could make a phone call, while everybody is looking at me wondering what I am waiting for.

tomh1102 - lol yeah that is something i wont miss
PrinceMike - Wallpaper Switcheroo, i hear there is something like it in the app store (will try it out and post back if i have time

also i miss having all my email in one single in box - looking for an app that will group different email acount into one single in box like the palm pre

one thing i miss is the themes (i finally crated a theme for the pre hope to create one for the evo)

Try K9. It's an email app with an integrated inbox as well as imap idle support. I'm not a fan of it. Like a lot of Android, it's klunky yet functional. So I stick with HTC's email app for now.

Press and hold on the home button for instant access to open and recent apps isn't good enough?
It just needs a way to get back to open apps better.

You do know you can create folders for the home screen and put apps from your home screen in there. Instead of having all the various media apps littered across a home screen, I have one media apps folder that contains Pandora, Slacker, GrooveShark, YouTube, Act 1 Vid Player, Gallery, Videos and Double Twist. Have another folder for all my games. You do know how to add apps to homescreens? There is a folder section to add a few different things. And to name the folder, when you open the folder, just press and hold on the folder name to edit it.
I wish Android could do this, cause I have so many apps and such that I need a better way to organize it. Even a folder system where I can put games in one, browsers in another, soundboards in one, music programs in another, maps and GPS in another... you get the point.

So it's harder to hit the find button than to slide open the phone?
the ability to just open the phone and start typing for universal search.

I can only think of two things I really miss after a bit under two weeks of using the EVO: cards and the Top Stocks app which had full Google Finance and portfolio integration...can't believe a phone with Android doesn't have the latter.

As for the stock and Dolphin browsers, IMO those blow the Pre's out of the water. I could never use the Pre's browser on anything but mobile sites due to the tiny screen and having to scroll left and right to read the tiny text. I simply can't fathom how anyone can fault the column resizing functionality in the stock or Dolphin browsers and then use the Pre browser as an example of how it should be done.

Things I don't miss: the pathetically limited Google Maps app that always took 20-30 seconds to open, hanging up on a phone call and the phone app locking up and not closing for another 5-10 seconds, pretty much all apps having a 3+ second delay to open, horrific battery life that makes the EVO (with all settings equal) look like the Energizer bunny in comparison, random reboots that took 2 or 3 minutes to complete, and having to rely on homebrew just to get basic functions like customizing your screen backgrounds and having more than three launcher screens.

I liked the phone while I had it but in retrospect I don't know how I put up with it for so long...the only reason I can think of is the strong homebrew community.
