Things people miss from WebOS

These are the things I miss and I hope Google fixes some of these in Froyo:

1. Touchstone charger
2. Portable external battery charger
3. Swipe gestures
4. Combined email accounts in one place
5. Card multi-tasking
6. Roam only option
7. Full syncing of Calender, Contacts (Full Notes), Notes and Tasks with Outlook.
8. Calender recurring events edit and remove capability.
9. Full backup of phone programs and Browser favorites for easy reinstall.
10. Mute switch
11. What's for Dinner App and decent 3D gaming
12. Soft Reset Option
13. Better notification system.

Nothing. I laugh when I see Preware in the list. For me, my EVO did everything out of the box that I had to patch my Pre to do. I've also got more apps on my EVO in one month than I had on my Pre in a year (including homebrew). No surprise the Android OS is gaining market share. A very good OS with a much better distribution strategy than ANY of its competitors.

Options are always a nice thing. Palm was a small company, they could only do so much. Preware and the community behind it is what made the WebOS amazing.

The one big thing I miss is the Roam Only option. I didn't realize how important this was to me until I no longer had it. It really is useful in certain locations when you only have 0-1 bar of Sprint service.

someone i know also uses his pre and depends on the forced roam option, which is a big problem moving to android which doesnt have this. i cant believe it hasnt been at least hacked on a rooted ROM to do this by now.

Then I have to restart and the phone takes 10 yrs to restart. How about apps taking forever to load, sluggishness of the OS, having to patch the phone just to get more than 3 screens, non-existent app catalog?
Where do I start????
What are you talking about? I've found more than enough apps that fit what I need. All the givens (Twitter, Facebook, etc.) are there. The phone takes a little bit longer, yes. What do you mean by "3 screens"? The OS isn't that sluggish, and Android isn't exactly the most optimized OS either. My Pre Plus runs perfectly fine at 1.2 Ghz.

With the on-screen keyboard I type FASTER than the hardware keyboard. I don't have to depress buttons. Just touch and go. I make ZERO mistakes when using landscape mode and very few mistakes in portrait mode which the HTC keyboard predictive input fixes anyway. And the pre keyboard is not even a good hardware keyboard. Droid has a much better one.
I have no problem with the fact that you like touch keyboards better than hardware varieties, but I do take issue with your Droid comment. The Droid's keys are flat, with no separation. The layout is also incredibly stupid, as several buttons (including the wasteful dummy keys) are not necessary. How is that better than the Pre's keyboard, which has good spacing, tactile push and feel, and a logical layout?

Notifications is just as 'elegant' on EVO as it is on webos. The notifications are unobtrusive in the notifications panel at the top. I receive weather alerts there, emails, ims, chat notifications while not affecting the current app I am in.
I can pull down the notifications panel to view the notifications and I can hit 'CLEAR' which removes all notifications.
With Webos, YOU HAVE TO SWIPE ALL THE NOTIFICATIONS AWAY ONE AT A TIME. Doesn't sound that 'elegant' does it?
Can you dismiss specific notifications by choice? No. The only way to clear notifications is to either act on them or clear them all. And you can't get interactive notifications either; the notifications in Android Sense only take you to the related app.

Customizable home screens on the EVO: On my 2nd screen I have my 4G, GPS, 3G, WIFI toggles all on that page. I can turn them on or off with a simple push. Can't customize the home screen on the Pre.
While I can't argue with the customizable home screens, the Pre has WiFi and Bluetooth toggles in the universal right drop down menu, and can be modified to toggle data, flashlight, and brightness, among others.

Battery Life: My EVO battery life puts the Pre to shame. Which is surprising considering the disparity in screen size. I had to charge my pre at work all the time otherwise it wouldn't make it through the day.
I do NOT have an EVO usb charger at work. When I get home after a long day, the lowest my battery percent has ever been is 62%.
With the Pre I would be in the low 30s.
Consider this: the EVO has a 1500 mAh battery, while the Pre has a 1150 mAh battery.

Size: I want a phone that feels like it's $500. Not one that feels like cheap plastic. I LOVE the glass screen and the slab look of the EVO. It is thin and fits perfectly in my pocket. (And I have big thighs).
Fair enough. But build quality on the EVO hasn't exactly been golden either.

The EVO is a MUCH MUCH better phone. Software and hardware.
Sure. For you. It's a pity your conclusion is based mostly on your opinions/preferences.

Note: I own a Pre Plus and am a proud webOS user, but I know quite a bit regarding Android. I rarely make an account purely to make a post like this, but when I saw this post, I had to counter.

Wow, Somebody feeling a little threatened?

We all choose our phones based on our opinions, just as you've spouted yours.

BTW, the Evo owns the Pre in nearly every aspect. My Opinion, with quite a bit of fact :)
3D graphics is the only area the Pre is remarkably better and since the screen taps are so laggy that makes that kinda moot.

The thing about 3D games on WebOS is that, while they performed pretty well, I had to reboot the phone 70% of the time to avoid the "Too Many Cards" error. I eventually stopped trying (although I LOVED Let's Golf).

My point is that they were great, when playable.

I am about 5 days into my Evo, and so far I am seriously impressed. This is my first Android device, and from reading blogs like Engadget and Gizmodo, I expected the UI to be much less polished.

The only thing I miss from WebOS is their easier method of navigating between (and closing) open apps. I'm not a fan of Android's apps remaining open in the background, but so far it hasn't seemed to slow the Evo down or cause any serious battery drain.

By the way, I came from the standard Pre, not the Pre plus. I imagine that my complaints about the too many cards error is not an issue for Verizon/ATT folk with the updated phone.

Have to say the only thing I truly miss is swiping away emails for deletion. Or just swipe/delete function. The Stone was nice to have, but I have found a dock station that works well for my Evo.

The market and practically every other aspect of the Evo is better than it was on the Palm. The fact I can actually see my screen to read news and what not without having to pinch the screen open to +8 size is a plus in itself.

(sorry if this has already mentioned..I have not read all 20 pages.. )

I miss the ability of the WebOS POP email client to sync deleted messages from the server. That is, when messages were delete off the server, the email program would remove them from the phone.

Does anyone know of a Android POP email client that does this??

I Miss 2 Things.
1. Touchstone
2. The ability to "force roam"
I can do without the touchstone but the roaming is what i really miss i keep waiting for someone to make an app that will make this possible.

Looks like with the 2.2 upgrade the stock Mail app will delete messages from the phone when they are deleted from the server! Granted some people would prefer it the other way, and it SHOULD be an option, but hey, I'm happy.

One LESS thing to miss from my Pre.

I know I'm a bit late on this but I just found this thread. I use "k-9 Mail" (the stand alone app) it's awesome and it syncs with gmail, not sure how it would work for pop services but it is in my opinion, hands down, the best email app for android. There are a couple versions of k-9 so make sure you have the stand alone version. It's very configurable and best of all it's free.

There is a force roam app if you are rooted. It's called Roam Control

The touch stone was awsome. I felt it would keep the charging plug from wearing out. Other than that I don't even miss swiping the cards or any of that. Android has so much potential
