Thinking about getting a Gear VR

I hear some say that the Note 9 does fit the newest 2017 Gear VR model, and others say that an adapter is needed.

Besides being included in pre-orders, i dont really see these on sale too much.

Any thoughts or recommendations, or tips?

If you get the latest version they say it should come with the new adapter but I'm not sure on that. I have the version released with the Note 8 and Samsung sent me the adapter for free. It fit in the Note 8 adapter but it is a REALLY tight fit. If you have a skin on the back then it definitely won't as it's the back portion of the Note 9 that barely fits.

I have version 4 which fits the S9 plus. Will it fit the note 9 or do I need an adapter?
