Hey all, I currently have a galaxy note 2, my contract is up in January, so I'm thinking about holding out for a while and buying an off contract phone for my next one and jumping to a cheaper pay monthly or pay as you go contract. The moto x has stood out as a great phone for its off contract price, but I wanted to check what you guys think? I had a few a Samsungs to the point of not remembering what a touchwiz free phone is like.. Had a HTC desire 1 before I jumped to Samsung.. Any tips? Backs you recommend getting? Cheers

If you like Touchwiz gimmicks then stay with them... I never had a Samsung, I did had couple of HTC phones and Sense got pretty bloated back then... I has mostly stay with Motorola due the phone build quality. Last year I got the Moto X 2013 and fell in love with it... Now I'm waiting for my new Moto X 2014. Now let me warn you, the device is simple, its stock android with some really clever and really useful features, so if you like those Samsung gimmicks then the Moto X is not for you!

I have a Galaxy S3 for my work phone and the 2nd Gen Moto X for my personal phone. In my opinion "Vanilla" android is much more user friendly than touchwiz. An example would be the steps needed to create a folder on the home screen. In touch wiz you need to long press an open space then choose Folder from the pop up then move your apps to that folder. In vanilla android you simply drag 1 app over another and it creates the folder automatically. Much easier :)

If you want to get an idea of how vanilla android is you can install the google now launcher from the play store. This will change bit with lollipop rolls out to all Moto X phones but the basics are the same.

TouchWiz makes me itch. I haven't used it for many years, but every now and again I'll play with a Samsung phone in a carrier store and be reminded of how awful it is compared to stock (or even pared down) Android. Unless there are specific features of TouchWiz that you like, you're not going to miss it.

As for whether or not the Moto X is a great phone, all I can give is my own opinion and to tell you to read the many glowing reviews out there. Personally I love this phone. It's fast, beautiful, and a joy to use. There's no bloat or crap weighing it down, and the few added software features over stock Android are actually useful. I've had more than one passenger express delight in the phone's ability to read and answer texts seamlessly while driving and without any use of bluetooth.

Love my navy leather back

Does it seem like high quality leather like you'd find on a nice wallet...that would hold up over time or maybe even look better with a few scuffs? Or is it very thin fragile and thin leather that would rip on the first drop or if scratched against a set of keys while in my pocket.
