Thinking about swtiching from Palm

The sheer number of usernames I recognize here from PreCentral is amazing, including fr4nk1yn who made some of my favorite Pre themes (in what was largely a sea of crap).

I plan to join the ranks of the EVO owners on Monday, decommissioning my Pre for backup use only. (I walked into a Sprint store in downtown Chicago at opening on Friday only to discover they had already sold out and were optimistically hoping for a reallocation later in the day which never happened. Monday it is, I hope.)

webOS is second to none in terms of usability. But as people have noted, Palm had its head up its ass with regards to hardware and actually implementing polish and key functionality that was included in PalmOS. If it wasn't for the webOSinternals guys, homebrewers and themers, my opinion about webOS wouldn't be nearly as positive. The phone running at the stock 500Mhz is a bad joke after having the 800Mhz patch installed for the past 3 months and the phone STILL chugs way more often than it should even with the 800MHz patch. Still, the potential's there but I don't see HP as being smart enough to fully capitalize on it. My money's on webOS as we know and love it dying a slow, painful death despite what some overzealous Pretards who now seem to be dominating PreCentral seem to think (some of us think the Pre IS too small and don't wear skintight assless chaps so we can actually pocket an EVO).

Looking forward to exploring everything Android has to offer and hearing what people have to say here.

I tell you, there's a learning curve involved but it's nice. Your going to really enjoy it!
Haven't put mine down much at all. My wife is even going nuts over it.

my workshop using an old post no one will ever notice...

Android Market To Hit 100,000 Apps on July 24th?

attachment.php

At the Droid X event on June 22, Google said that the Android Marketplace had hit 68,000 apps.

That's pretty impressive.

But looking at the tracking data from our friends at Androilib.com, that 68,000 app number may have been from June 1, 2010, not June 22nd when it was stated. And 21-day old data in the Android world is pretty old.

As of July 7, 2010, Androlib put the app count at 87,587 app with about 700 new apps being added each day. If you color outside the lines a bit as shown in red above, and do some quick math, it looks like Google may announce that Android has hit 100,000 apps around July 24th. As alwasy, these number include apps, skins, keyboards, etc.

100,000 Android Apps!

You heard it at Android|Central first!

Another Pre Defector here... although I'm keeping mine handy in case I need to switch back.

Things I miss:

* true or should i say EASY multi-tasking
* copy and paste. That was sooooo easy to do, shift + tap = selected text copied! I don't want to copy the entire message!!! Guess I'll be on these forums a long time looking to do this.
* flicking cards away
* flicking between cards
* numeric lock screen

Things I miss about the Pre and webos, wait I'm still thinking???????????????

Palm just announced that they will be coming out with webos 2.0 and a new device by the end of the year for those looking to return!
