hi all,
I have had an Iphone since the beginning. I have Iphone 4 right now with at&t( only reliable network here), it is a great phone, very well made and does everything I ask of it ( jailbroke ). I am entering my mid forties and my vision is not what it once was. I am thinking very hard on jumping ship for a 4"+ screen.
Not interested in bashing either systems, I know both have their pros and cons, just thought I would try to educate myself on Droid, like why is there so many different Droid operating systems?

That is a loaded question. Android is freeware and available for all to develop and create. Apple is not. I am entertaining an iphone 5. Both OS are good, and android is finally seeing fruit of a polished OS. Options are what makes google stand out. Get that 4+!

Well just like IOS the Android OS has progressed, and just like IOS older devices can't necessarily run the new OS. What is different is that for years Android has been put on many different handsets from many different manufactures, all with different hardware specifications. Add to that multiple network carriers, and the fact that handsets are rarely supported with software updates beyond one year by the above mentioned entities.

That is the short version of why there are so "many" percieved orphaned phone's running older versions of Android.

Thanks for the replys, the polishing of Droid operating system is one of the reason I am considering the switch. I believe iphone set the bar high, and it has took droid some time to reach it. I am thinking Droid might have set their own bar even higher lately. I will wait on Iphone 5 to see what it offers, but it will have to be a MAJOR upgrade to compete with phones like the Galaxy S2. I was in the AT&T store playing with the Infuse 4g,all I can say is WOW, loved the big screen, just hope the operating system ( Droid) does not let me down.
