Thinking of buying up a Nexus 4 to replace my phone or to use 2 phones?

Something about stock Android and a Nexus brand device seems way more intriguing than my current S3 but I dont know if I should. I can buy a new Nexus 4 16gb model for $300 which is not bad at all but I still have my functional S3 but I prefer Stock android and Im concerned about my S3 specs not being up to date per say like the N4 and when Key Lime Pie comes out the N4 will get it first correct?. I was thinking of replacing my S3 for the N4 or maybe use of 2 phones at the same time but that would be pretty silly. Im also pretty much new to rooting devices and frankly it scares me because of the possibility of having a bricked phone but thats where the Nexus 4 truly shines from what I've seen. Having no SD storage or a removable battery or LTE doesnt bother me one bit but I dont know what to do.

Yes, the nexus will have android 5 before the s3 will, I believe Samsung said they would update the s3 to 5.0. You could probably sell your s3 for about 300 so its an even exchange. But honestly I wouldn't worry about the specs on the s3. Its still an awesome phone and holds its own well. If you end up rooting your s3 just remember to read guides CAREFULLY so you understand what to do and it should be straightforward with no issues, no promises though =). Anyways I would just think what the nexus 4 does that the s3 can't and figure out if its really worth it yo switch. There really isn't a bad choice here!

One of my pet peeve is when people use multiple devices for different tasks. Ideally you can replace them all with one good device. For example: this guy I know uses a BlackBerry for work, iTouch for games/music, Garmin for GPS, S4 for personal calls/text.

Did you ever ask him why he was using so many devices? I would be curious to hear his response.

The Nexus 4 will certainly get the new android update before S3, because it is support directly by Google.

He said that he doesn't want to "put all his eggs in one basket." He said if he happened to lose that one device he loses everything.

That's really interesting. Doesn't he mind the convenience of having that one device?

Stock Android is great, I had a Nexus 4 for a while, but you will find that your S3 will have a few features that the Nexus does not have. Also, people who have never experienced a Nexus device don't realize that you have to add a lot of functionality to it through apps. For starters, it doesn't have visual voicemail. The stock video player is serious lacking. Audio from the music player is way too low. And the stock browser can be very laggy. Now of course there are some benefits to having stock Android like getting timely updates, however, you will find that updates to the stock operating system usually bring about features already implemented on current devices with skins. For example, gesture typing, swipe down menu for settings controls, access to apps from the lock screen. All of these features were introduced with the Nexus 4, however, many of them had already been featured on numerous devices a year or maybe 2 years prior.

Wow, how does he carry his Blackberry, iPod Touch, Garmin, and S4? I'm guessing he just leaves the Garmin in the car, but that leaves 3 other devices. Does he use a holster or a backpack?
