Thinking of going from Note 8 to Pixel 2 XL

For now I am muddling through with my gear 3 watch for Samsung pay.

What is the practical difference between using the watch vs the phone for Samsung Pay (if any)?

These top end android phones are pretty much all the same when you slap a case on them and add your preferred launcher.

One thing that Samsung has that no other phone has is the ability to pay with one's phone at any terminal. This is huge if you use your phone and credit cards a lot. For now I am muddling through with my gear 3 watch for Samsung pay.

I think the one feature I do like on the pixel is the squeeze to open AI. But I suppose Samsung has long press home button to do the same thing (or maybe they will allow remapping of the bixby button one day).

I can understand the convenience of paying with one's phone; but I personally do not like doing that. I'm old school when it comes to these kinds of things, though!

Not that big a deal for me. I use Android Pay almost everywhere and there's no issue pulling out my credit card

I live in the mid-west. Only about 10% of merchants have Android or Apple pay terminals.

Fiddling with watch to get it ready. Twisting arm around in awkward position to get it buy the swiper.

Much easier to just hold the phone by the swiper. Plus the my phone will have the affinity card loaded for whatever store (like CVS) so I have to pull out the phone so they can scan my card on the phone, put it away, then set my watch to pay, contour wrist by swiper, Paid. Still I get Samsung points with watch... I think.

That app doesn't run on the watch, or the screen is just too small for it to be useful for that purpose?
Since I've never seen the watch used for Samsung Pay I assume it's just the screen that is needs to be near the terminal? That doesn't seem to require much wrangling, unless you wear your watch on the inner portion of your arm.

I love my Note 8...except the form factor is a little long. And I hate the curved screen. And I dont really use the pen.

Anyone gone from the Note 8 to the Pixel 2 XL? I think I would miss the lovely screen. And the headphone jack, though I rarely use it.

Anything you miss? Did the swap make you happy?

Yeah I'm happy. I'm actually considering a galaxy a8 plus. That phone looks awesome .

I have a gear S3 for Samsung Pay, so I use that most of the time.

Don't use Samsung pay. Got Frontier 3 LTE because can't use ring tone in court and watch vibration was only way to be alerted to important messages. Saved my posterior.

Plus I've got into habit of answering calls 80% on watch.

i came from the note 8. Imo the screen on the p2xl is just as good. I do miss the pen and the sexy hardware from time to time though. Oh and the theming. The pixel is just better in almost every way even though it's a little boring.

I don't miss the pen as much guess cuz I want using it a lot to begin with. No issues with the screen for me at all and I will agree Samsung does make a dashingly good looking device but I'm good with my decision, especially when it comes to fluidity and UPDATES!

Why would you downgrade? The only place the pixel wins is camera, and that's debatable.

Camera. Better battery. Monthly updates. Google Assistant. Dual speakers. Smooth, fluid operation. Easier to handle. Better, easier to use fingerprint sensor.
