Thinking Twice About Getting the GN

I've been planning on picking up the Galaxy Nexus for a while now. (Paying off other things that came first)

After reading these forums, I've been second guessing my decision. I read about the data loss issues from the start and that didn't bother me too much ONLY because I read about the updates supposedly fixing this.

Now I'm seeing things about defective screens, bad volume, screeching, echoing on headphones, etc. I am aware that this may not represent the majority of users who have the phone but its still enough to make me nervous on upgrading.

I am almost considering the Razr Maxx for the decent radio, build quality, and battery life but I am trying to distance myself from Motorola devices for a few reasons. (DROID X was my first Android device. Currently on Bionic)

I have until Friday to make up my mind. Just hoping that if I do decide to pick up the GN, it wont have to be returned. I'd hate to waste an upgrade.

Getting a bad device is a chance you will take with any purchase.
I don't have a defective screen, the volume is fine, I don't have signal issues, and every phone I've owned has has BT echoing from time to time.

My only real problem with the Nexus is with javascript, which I know can be fixed with an update since the problem doesn't exist on alternate ROMs.

The only issue I've got with my nexus is that I dropped it and the side of my phone is all dinged up. I have no data issues, no volume issues, no BT issues nothing.

I'm hoping I have no issues. Yes, its true that there is a risk of any product being defective but I just don't want to go down the whole "BlackBerry Storm" road again Lol. Although I'm sure it's not that bad in this case.

Oh i feel ya on the blackberry storm boat man. Really I love this phone haven't had any issue expect low signal and I get 1 to 2 bars but never any call drop or anything like that. You will love this phone.

Oh god don't remind me about the Blackberry Storm, but rest assured it'll never be that bad even if you do have problems with that phone haha.

No Dude this is not the BB Storm (aka The Freezphone). The main hangup is the LTE/CDMA switcheroo losing a signal and Verizon. I use 3G and mine's fine. Sometimes the caller can't hear me for a few secs but that isn't often and it's probably them. The ICS rocks, and so does the screen. The volume is fine, the battery is fine. Better than my HTC Incredible by a lot.
EDIT: If the OP is in Phx (I'm Prescott) the LTE is spotty there where I've been (N. Scottsdale). But it will get better.

Absolutely love my GNEX More importantly, for me, it's about as future proof as a phone can get since I plan to keep it for 2 years. I haven't even rooted yet and that's where this phone really dominates...so I've read. Definitely sucks for the people who've received shoddy handsets (of course the LOUD minority as it goes), but once you've experienced a proper GNEX I'm quite sure you'll want nothing else. Quite a few of my friends and coworkers ran out and got their own after using mine. Good luck.

My two cents:

I've had a few problems with this phone. I've had multitouch issues (which are being resolved in a future update), and my phone has a fried battery port; I currently am having a replacement shipped to me, no charge.

In my opinion, this is the best android phone on Verizon, and one of the better ones period. Ice Cream Sandwich is great, and I would sincerely say the pros outweigh the cons. Plus the screen is just peachy.

I thought 3 times about getting a Nexus. I own one, my wife owns one, my daughter owns one. They all run perfectly.

Losing signal is actually a big thing for me. I just hope its not too bad to point that it causes the phone to be temporarily unusable, as I've read with some others.

I did not read everyone's response but I almost made the same mistake about not getting this phone. Look on any phone forum and you will see almost every phone has issues. This phone is awesome and I am glad I got this phone.

The Maxx is a great phone. But, it is lacking one major thing that the Nexus has. ICS.. It also doesn’t look like it will get for a while.

I upgraded a Droid X for the Galaxy Nexus and I could not be happier. I was a little nervous also, but the battery life is about the same as the X, it switches from 3G to 4G without a hiccup and the screen is
beautiful. I say go for it and you always have a 30 day window to exchange if you have problems.

If that is your thing man, sure.

I just like a good solid phone and the nexus isn't it. BTW, don't expect another nexus if Phil is right. IMO, It is a dud.
