Thinking about getting either the Bionic / Laptop dock or the Nexus Prime. Question for Laptop Dock owners.

I really don't want to explore the whole "root" phone option either to get free wifi.

Like most users, I don't see why I have to pay a tether fee to use the laptop dock/ Bionic combo, to get full internet access using the phone's internet, when I don't have WiFi available. I know it is possible to use the phone's internal browser on the laptop dock, but it doesn't give you full desktop like internet access, like the MZ Firefox does, when you don't have Wifi. But if you don't have Wifi and try to use the installed MZ Firefox, you are required to pay verizon a tether plan, which of course, I don't want to pay.

I read on another forum somewhere that a user wanting to avoid the tether fee with the Atrix/ Laptop dock combo installed the Dolphin HD browser on his phone. He was able to access the new browser on his laptop dock and expand it to full screen. Supposedly, this is how he was able to get fullscreen desktop like internet access without paying the tether fee.

Have any of you tried using third party browsers, like the Dolphin HD, and had success with getting full desktop like internet access with the Bionic/laptop dock combo?

This may be a dealbreaker for me between the Bionic or Prime. I found a really good deal by me for the Bionic that will end really really soon, so it is now or never.

Appreciate any help on this!

There is no tether fee to use the lapdock with the Bionic.

You are correct, when it comes to accessing movies, videos, using the file manager, the phone's internal browser, and all the other features of the laptop dock regardless if you are using the phone's data connection or wifi connection. You are correct. You are not required to have a tether fee to use the laptop dock in those situtions... If you are in a Wifi connected area, yes you do not need a tether fee to get complete access to MZ firefox

But.....

If you DO NOT have wifi in your area and you need to resort to your phone's data connection and if you try to use the installed MZ Firefox. Then you are required to have the tether fee.

If you disconnect your Wifi access on your phone and rely strictly on your phone's data connection, does MZ firefox still work as it should?

good move on the bionic imo....however you may want to wait on the lapdock as I understand there's a new updated ,model coming out.....personally I won't be buying a lapdock unless it got down to a tempting price point ($99-$149)

I use this everyday, and no tethering fee is required. It is awesome.

I just need to figure out how to install MS Office on three lapdock. That should be unreal.
