looks much more like a badly optimized game that even has ads with no warning right during gameplay. I've played Crusaders of light and Arena of Valor on max settings with no serious frame drops.

I got you. I'm not up on this so it just looked bad to me. I suppose the games being optimized is a thing as well

this phone won't drop frame rate on any game.... you should play the new darkness rising, amazing graphics!

As you increase the resolution and details, the framerate can and most likely will drop. You kind of have to pick your battles on this. Some of the reduction can be attributed to bad optimization, but as it stands, this isn't bad for a phone, either.

There's a chance he didn't turn game optimization off... Also some games are more optimized for certain phones and CPUs than others.. that's why some old games were removed from the Play Store.. it's up to the developer to fix some of the issues..

You also said you don't play games so it wouldn't even matter..
