This is rediculous

If that was the situation with HTC I don't know what I would do. I can relate to your disgust.

OMG, my girlfriend's 13 year old son has the Ally. I think she got that phone for free when adding a line for him. And THAT phone gets 2.2 before ours?

I have been eligible since end of July for my upgrade because I traded my Inc for a Fascinate and now I am wishing I kept this Inc. I am so tired of this.........

I feel your pain....but not really cause I have a dinc...but I thought the DINC was the redheaded stepchild.....I think the fascinate takes the cake.

I love how everyone thinks we aren't going to ever get updated... The Ally is four months older than the Fascinate.

And why is 2.2 suddenly the greatest OS update any phone can get? It isn't anything earth shattering.

I can't wait for all the "froyo broke my phone" and "I can't believe this is what I was waitng for" threads...

Edit: and I hate to break it to you, but despite its superior hardware, this is not a "high end" device on VZW sans the "droid" moniker

I am upset with the fact that a phone on the very bottom of the android food chain is getting the support the high end phone does not.

It's annoying, but live and learn, not much else you can do.

The phone still functions really well, and I've yet to actually run into an app or feature that requires 2.2, so the reality is the lack of 2.2 doesn't effect me in the slightest.

That said, the lack of support and total disregard for what was advertised is disappointing, and will certainly play into my future purchasing decisions. I'll likely never buy another Samsung phone, we replaced our home washer and dryer and I passed on Samsung models, despite the fact that they were competitively priced and fairly well reviewed. I also recently replaced a DVD player, and bought a brand other than Samsung.

So, Samsung has already lost upwards of $1000 in sales from me alone, and will surly loose much more in the future. That's the only power a consumer has in a consumer society - to vote with your wallet.

Galaxy S (GT-I9000) Gets Android 2.2.1 Through Kies; Said to Significantly Improve Performance

Samsung have delivered the upgrade to Android 2.2.1 – a maintenance upgrade to Android not to be confused with the Android 2.2 upgrade which the Galaxy S already enjoys. It brings with it not only the general bug fixes and small enhancements to Froyo, but Androinica reports that it seems to make the device move a lot faster – something Samsung would have to be responsible for. (Could they have finally adopted the Ext4 file system?) Anywho, most Europeans should be able to find the upgrade right now via Kies.

...and what does this have to do with anything?

So an older device from a different manufacturer gets an update, and that upsets you?

I'm lost too. Why is this bad? Verizon is supporting their devices, and releasing a major update to a much cheaper LG phone. Seems to me this is a good sign that they are not leaving people hanging.

I hear "2.2 isn't that great" all the time. That's not the point.

I have accessories that won't work until 2.2 is released.

How about JIT? How about the faster javascript engine?

How about not being able to get apps designed for 2.2 or higher?

DL09 is causing issues on my phone, and I'm sure Froyo will as well in one way or another.

It then end it should upset all of use, because in the end it hurts Android. More fragmentation, different UI's on different manufactures. It's not a young immature OS anymore. It's made some big strides and it's time for the carriers and everyone else involved to keep up.

Has this been run around the androidcentral community? There is strong speculation that the Froyo delay is a money play by the carriers, Verizon is just one among the rest (Tmo, AT&T, Sprint) who are trying to get Samsung to cave on their contractually negotiated fee to issue a Froyo update for the aforementioned carriers' Galaxy S phones. Hard to say who is in the wrong without seeing the actual contracts, but it sounds like Samsung is just trying to ring the carriers for more money for the privilege of stamping out a Froyo build.

Galaxy S No-Froyo Explained by Samsung Update Fees? | Android Community

edit: never mind, it got played with in this thread

Nearly over 6 months since its launch, the Samsung Acclaim for US Cellular is finally getting its tasty dessert of Froyo.

Handset owners can now download the 102MB update through US Cellular's web site, and you heard that right – their web site; as opposed to a customary over-the-air process. Nevertheless, it's not overly complicated when it comes down to installing the update – but friendly instructions are provided to get you up to par with Android 2.2 Froyo.

Once you've gotten that taken care of, you'll be able to experience all the wonders and joys that the stock Froyo experience has to offer.
