Hit the 3 dots in the search bar>settings>turn off suggested apps.

Yeah that annoyed me at first too. I couldn't remember how to turn it off either. Poster above me has it right.

I actually had this enabled before the update. I guess the update reset your settings.

Guess I'm just missing all the other threads about the changes after the update. To the OP's topic, I never thought about or even knew you could turn those off. I don't find them all that irritating but it's nice to know there are options.

i remember when this launched with android 8 or 9. it was supposed to track usage and recommend apps based on certain times of day and patterns that it observed from you. if it saw you were on instagram at 6pm each weeknight, it would suggest instagram at 6pm. it works pretty well actually, but i got sick of it after a while
