I don't know about you, but as much as I'm anticipating getting mine in the mail... I just know Touchwiz is going to mess everything up.
If you want to add extra widgets or something, that's fine. But I already don't like the re-skinned white UI buttons (Back/Home/Multi), the cheesy new clock, and the best part is you can't decline it or turn it off. Ugh. Why won't they let us customize THIS?
Then you have the mini apps tray, which as handy as it might be, is also something we won't have the option of turning off and I guarantee you will cause a performance hit... I swear I've never heard of an update that nobody wanted until I bought something Samsung made.
Edit- Not to rain on anyone's parade, of course. Ahem. I did buy one of these myself afterall.
Just curious, but is this your first tablet? (Android or otherwise,) I've seen a lot of opinions from those with experiences with other tablets, but (though helpful in validating my decision) I'm also interested in seeing what those new to tablets think, considering the Tab 10.1 will be my first.![]()
Aside from the horribly ugly skin they use for touchwiz... My biggest problem is them adding a camera button to the bottom left next to the multi task button. I've had a honeycomb tablet since February and I can count on one hand how many times I've used the camera. I really don't want the camera button there and I truly hope there is a way to take it off. I don't want to be accidentally launching the camera several times a day.
It's not really "optional" though. Either stick with stock Honeycomb and whatever bugs that come with it, or update your device to fix those bugs and get forced to use Touchwiz.
Do you play video games? Remember the 'OtherOS' debacle? Same thing.
If the update is "optional", I see it as being totally separate from a Google 3.X update. The TouchWiz OTA MAY bring some bug fixes, but I doubt they would keep you from getting any other updates at all.
If they did it the right way, yes. But it's a part of the OTA - meaning if you want any bug fixes you have to install it. Meaning if, per se Google were to release Honeycomb 3.2, that the 3.2 update for the Galaxy Tab would force Touchwiz. Sure you'll get market updates, but security updates are what really matters which is what you turn down if you decline the new UI. That's the problem, I don't agree with forcing people to do something.
You want the cool features of Android 3.2? Either install Touchwiz or refuse the update and get locked out of any apps developed for it.
Or root.
Look, you knew going into this that Touchwiz was coming (very much unlike the OtherOS situation, I might add). You bought it, knowing that in all likelihood you might be forced into using Touchwiz as part of the official upgrade path. So you have two choices; deviate from the official upgrade path, or buy something else.
Look, I like stock Android as much as the next guy, but I'm not going to complain when I get my SGS II that it comes with Touchwiz; I knew that before I bought it, I accepted it, and now I'm going to wipe it off the face of the earth, er, my phone.![]()
Firstly no, there are a ton of people buying this device that have no idea Touchwiz is coming. Sure I did, and I imagine most of the people here did too. But the mass populous doesn't; you think the people buying these as gifts even have a clue what an OTA is let alone Touchwiz? Just because a couple of guys on a forum are aware of it doesn't mean we make up 90% of the people buying this thing. Which, that being said, makes it even more like the OtherOS situation.
