Just curious, but is this your first tablet? (Android or otherwise,) I've seen a lot of opinions from those with experiences with other tablets, but (though helpful in validating my decision) I'm also interested in seeing what those new to tablets think, considering the Tab 10.1 will be my first. :)

nope i still have a vzw galaxy tab (7") and love that too, but this 10.1 just blows me away! when there are more apps set up for honeycomb, it will be even better! Go and grab this. It is entirely worth it!

This is my first tabket and I haven't put it down all day. This thing is absolutely beautiful !!!

I don't know about you, but as much as I'm anticipating getting mine in the mail... I just know Touchwiz is going to mess everything up.

If you want to add extra widgets or something, that's fine. But I already don't like the re-skinned white UI buttons (Back/Home/Multi), the cheesy new clock, and the best part is you can't decline it or turn it off. Ugh. Why won't they let us customize THIS?

Then you have the mini apps tray, which as handy as it might be, is also something we won't have the option of turning off and I guarantee you will cause a performance hit... I swear I've never heard of an update that nobody wanted until I bought something Samsung made.

Edit- Not to rain on anyone's parade, of course. Ahem. I did buy one of these myself afterall.

Aside from the horribly ugly skin they use for touchwiz... My biggest problem is them adding a camera button to the bottom left next to the multi task button. I've had a honeycomb tablet since February and I can count on one hand how many times I've used the camera. I really don't want the camera button there and I truly hope there is a way to take it off. I don't want to be accidentally launching the camera several times a day.

I'm not seeing that camera button on mine...just a regular ol icon

Yes this looks like the same interface as the Xoom. Stock Honeycomb.

The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is my first tablet and I love it so far. Spent some time on the sofa last night browsing the web, checking e-mail, and reading on the Kindle app. Very nice! We had a birthday party at my house for my daughter yesterday afternoon and I showed it to two people who were considering tablets for purchase and they loved it and found it very easy to use. I also showed it to two current iPad2 owners who begrudgingly admitted they were blown away by it. They were somewhat envious of compatibility with Flash. :-)

Stock honeycomb, folks. No funky camera button here. Just awesomeness. I have nothing to really complain about!

That camera button is actually for taking screenshots on the device, which could definitely come in handy.

And the update is going to be optional. None of you need to accept it if you don't want to. I may, though. It actually looks kind of useful.

It's not really "optional" though. Either stick with stock Honeycomb and whatever bugs that come with it, or update your device to fix those bugs and get forced to use Touchwiz.

Do you play video games? Remember the 'OtherOS' debacle? Same thing.

If the update is "optional", I see it as being totally separate from a Google 3.X update. The TouchWiz OTA MAY bring some bug fixes, but I doubt they would keep you from getting any other updates at all.

Its a pretty good device. Its alot nicer then my xoom was, to big, heavy, and annoying the xoom was. This feels light the screen is crisp like on my playbook, its responsive, i see they fixed most of the browser bugs, its got a good wifi antenna, great device to leave at home and enjoy on my free time. Even though ots blackberry my playbook fills the mobile gap, i feel silly right now sitting in a mall leaching off at&t wifi. Im just downloading stuff before i head to were i dont have wifi atm.

If they did it the right way, yes. But it's a part of the OTA - meaning if you want any bug fixes you have to install it. Meaning if, per se Google were to release Honeycomb 3.2, that the 3.2 update for the Galaxy Tab would force Touchwiz. Sure you'll get market updates, but security updates are what really matters which is what you turn down if you decline the new UI. That's the problem, I don't agree with forcing people to do something.

You want the cool features of Android 3.2? Either install Touchwiz or refuse the update and get locked out of any apps developed for it.

Or root. :p

Look, you knew going into this that Touchwiz was coming (very much unlike the OtherOS situation, I might add). You bought it, knowing that in all likelihood you might be forced into using Touchwiz as part of the official upgrade path. So you have two choices; deviate from the official upgrade path, or buy something else.

Look, I like stock Android as much as the next guy, but I'm not going to complain when I get my SGS II that it comes with Touchwiz; I knew that before I bought it, I accepted it, and now I'm going to wipe it off the face of the earth, er, my phone. :p

I made one comment talking about my dislike for Touchwiz and got 4 replies inquiring about it so I responded, I'm not just sitting here spewing hate posts.

Firstly no, there are a ton of people buying this device that have no idea Touchwiz is coming. Sure I did, and I imagine most of the people here did too. But the mass populous doesn't; you think the people buying these as gifts even have a clue what an OTA is let alone Touchwiz? Just because a couple of guys on a forum are aware of it doesn't mean we make up 90% of the people buying this thing. Which, that being said, makes it even more like the OtherOS situation.

And secondly, I was obviously aware of it and bought it anyway which shows how enormous of a deal it is to me (read: not much). It just bothers me how they went about it. Again, I didn't reply to the people in this thread to reiterate how much I hate it, I was merely correcting them regarding something they might not have known. It just bugs me knowing there's an unnecessary, mandatory, incoming performance hit nobody asked for. I had Sense in my last phone and big surprise half the embedded apps it forced into the experience were broken, I just got a Charge running Touchwiz which also has it's problems... needless to say I'm not a fan of custom UI's. Part of the reason I don't like being forced into this situation is because I don't root, or rather can't root for security reasons (nor do I encourage anyone who holds their data valuable to do so).

So like I said, Samsung either wants us to accept Touchwiz or live with the security flaws of the stock OS. That's just not cool to me, especially when all they had to do was stick these add-ons in a downloadable marketplace package - which would have been best for everyone.

I would contend that those who don't know what an OTA or TW is probably don't know what Honeycomb is either, so it probably wouldn't make that big of a difference to them anyways
