Thoughts on Infuse?

Hello everyone...

I am new to this site and I may soon be a new Android user. Currently I have the BlackBerry Torch 9800 through AT&T and I am seriously considering switching to the Infuse. I have been using BB for 5+ years and I was looking forward to the newer models coming out soon. However, the lack of updates and the problems with RIM have given me enough interest to jump to the other side. :)

What I would like to know is, what are the general impressions of other Infuse owners? I like everything I see about this device but how are things such as the battery life, customizations, and overall speed?

Thanks for any and all input.

Battery life is good. Root and it us amazing. Last a whole day easily with moderate to heavy use. Very fast, responsive and snappy. No lag. Gorgeous screen. The best I've ever used. I don't think I'll go with anything else that doesn't have super amoled plus. Check the xda forums. Good stuff going on over the for this phone. Board is much more active as well.

Sent from my rooted infuse flashed with infused!

I love the Infuse. I was a BB and iPhone user before.

Things to keep in mind coming from BB. These are not necessarily bad things, just things to be aware.

* No notification LED light
* Push Gmail works much like BB (instantly). Pull (POP) email works on a schedule (every 5 mins to very 60 mins).
* It won't take you long, but you'll need to adjust from hard to soft keyboard.
* Battery life is decent, but BB usually last longer than iPhone/Androids. Plan to charge every night (which I do regardless).
* No BBM.

There might be a few other things here and there, like keyboard shortcuts. But for the most part, everything else you'll like better on the Android.

I'm sorry but battery life plain sucks in my opinion. You will need to turn off all auto notifications and auto syncing stuff. Also check your task manager and kill apps you are currently not using. Also might turn off the gps, bluetooth and wifi if you are not using them to save power. Seems at times using the gps with maping programs can us a lot of power especially if it's having trouble getting location. Need to get a car charger for sure to keep with you. Might also try turning your brightness down to like 15-20% and swipe your status bar at top to full brightness when outside. There also is app called juice defending that might help to conserver battery power. Do all of this then battery usage will improve.

I was a Palm Pre Plus user... that somes it right there.

This phone is great. Faster then my 3 year old laptop.

I switched from a BB Bold 9000 to the Infuse, and I'm very happy with it.
The screen is big enough so that the keys on the virtual keyboard are bigger than the physical keys on devices with physical keyboards.
I've had no problems with battery usage, after turning off almost all apps (GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi, etc.) until needed. My phone reports that display accounts for 75% of its battery usage.

I love the Infuse. I have had it since launch day and came over from the iPhone 4. Battery seems to be a crap shoot some say it is great some same it is horrible. Mine seems to change from day to day though. Some days it seems like it is doing great and others it seems to die really fast even with the same type usage. I don't worry about turning off everything as I feel it is a smart phone and meant to be used as such. If I need to charge it during the day, most days I don't, then I will just put in on the charger and not worry about it. The screen is awesome as pretty much anyone will tell you. I really like still being able to see it pretty good even in bright sunlight. It does require a reboot every few days to keep it running smooth, but so did my jailbroken iPhone so I don't see that as a big deal. One word of advice though is to stay away from the official Twitter app as it causes all sorts of weird issues. I am very happy with this phone and don't plan on switching to another any time soon.

Thanks for all the feedback. :) I definitely don't mind running some apps to help with battery performance and adjusting settings here and there to get the right comfort level. But I also don't mind charging the phone during the day. Right now my Torch sometimes needs to be charged during the day if I run some extra apps that I normally don't run. I have a charger in my car and at work though so I am covered either way.

I definitely like the look of the phone even though it is bigger than what I am used to. I know there are some benefits of BlackBerry's that I will lose but considering all that is gained, I think that is worth the switch.

Thanks again everyone! Certainly if anyone else has additional comments I would love to hear them.

Coming from an iphone4, I really like my Infuse . The fit in the hand takes getting used to but the large beautiful screen plus thinness of the Infuse is what I like most!

Problems....my opinion...1-battery life is poor (learning this is typical of Android phones in general) but some would say it is good for androids. 2-GPS is hit or miss and pales in comparison with iPhone (which was almost perfect). If you use a lot of GPS apps then I'd be careful.

Note: regarding battery life, I just upgraded to Gingerbread ROMS for the Infuse and battery life is now EXCELLENT. I am very happy so my only complaint is the GPS.

I went from a torch to a captivate and have had my infuse for a week now. The infuse is easily the best (IMHO) of the three devices.

I used my touchscreen on my torch, and found typing on this device to be even easier because of the haptic feedback. Most of the people I talked to on BBM are also on gchat, so I downloaded beejive and I can't say I miss BBM at all. Someone else mentioned the polling email accounts taking longer-think of the older days with your BB when it would come every 15 minutes. I was told you can always have your email routed through your gmail account, but I haven't had any issues that have made this a necessity to me.

The screen is beautiful. Like I find myself turning it up just to look at it at times. Unfortunately I also have to keep it plugged in most of the time, and have ordered a second battery to have as a backup when I'm out. I currently get about 14-16 hours of moderate use.

You will probably really like it, even while you're having to adjust to a new platform. I find myself thinking I should have switched sooner all the time. Hope this helps.

I have my email check frequency set to 5 minutes, and you can always select "refresh" to check mail anytime you want.

Battery life SHOULD improve with the Gingerbread update. As for features, it's a no brainer to switch from a BB to the Infuse. I've had a blackberry, iPhone 3GS and now the Infuse. Hands down, the Infuse is my favorite. Once you try this phone, you will never be able to go back to the tiny BB screen!

I am now a very happy Android user. :D I picked up the Infuse today after reading several reviews, getting opinions from this site as well as other people that use similar devices, and just due to wanting a bigger and better smartphone experience.

Thanks again everyone!

Congratulations! I grabbed one today too and left my old Blackberry at the curb. I love this phone. I miss the old BB keyboard, but I'm getting used to touchscreen. This phone is the perfect transition from Blackberry for me, because the screen is big enough to mitigate my typing challenges. Keep reading the forum because there are great customization tips in here. Again, congratulations on making the switch to an awesome phone!
