I noticed that Sprint is having this phone for free for a few days, and considering that I'm leaving T-Mobile to find something else, this is certainly appealing. What do you guys think of this phone and Sprints service overall?

Matt- from what I've seen in the market it seems the sprint plans most economical. A full data plan for $69 per month with unlimited text and internet is a great deal. Many of my friends and co-workers are switching to sprint daily. Many have due to the EVO. My wife and I have been customers for approximately 10 years. I use the EVO while she just picked up the Optimus s on black Friday. Its a nice phone with the capability of adding more apps as needed. It also seems to surf the web at decent speeds. I think you'll be surprised with all products and services Sprint has to offer at a low price. Hope this helped. Good luck finding a new carrier.

Don't forget to look into an employee discount, for even more savings.

Also I've heard people asking for freebies for switching to sprint. Such as cases, screen covers or car charges. Never hurts to ask!

Yes, this :P And do it before you start the line, you can sometimes get discounts for starting a new line while being employed by a certain company - with Kroger, for example, I get 22% off of my bill every month (so I'm paying about $60 a month for the Everything 450 plan, after taxes/fees). It's a great company and I've never been disappointed with them or let down by them, and the whole free phone thing right when I was about to upgrade didn't hurt either.

As for the phone, it's a good solid phone, and I've had no big issues with it; mostly just getting used to the OS and figuring out what the phone's limitations are (I tend to push the upper edge of what my devices can do D: ). I do like the fact that it comes with Sprint ID and a Sprint section in the Android Market, which means that you don't really have any bloatware on it, aside from any Sprint apps you might actually use.

i'm not even sure if they check where u work. Caterpillar an State Farm each get a 25% discount

state farm is 25%? thats nuts!!! Im talking to sprint right now! The ole lady works for state farm. thats a nice discount!!!!

I would have to say I am very impressed with this phone after 24 hours. I was a bit skeptical when I saw the price $0.00. I am coming from the world of Windows Mobile and will not be looking back. Overall this phone is smooth, responsive, sylish, and sleek. I would recomend it to anyone wanting a smartphone.

I am moving over from a hero running cyanogen 6.1. Here are some notes comparing the Optimus to the rooted cyanogen hero.

Optimus boots much faster. I did not time it but it is 30-60 seconds faster.

Optimus has much longer battery life. I can easily run 36-48 hours per charge on the Optimus vs 24 hours max on the hero.

Optimus seems slightly faster when switching screens and using apps. The linpack is slower on the Optimus (3.7 vs 4.9) so I'm not sure what the difference is here.

I have not rooted the Optimus yet but will do so when I get some more free time closer to the holidays. So far I am really impressed.

Oh, forgot to mention....last time I was in a sprint store they were trying to give a discount to a customer. He was not working at the time so they started asking him if he volunteered anywhere. Turns out they even have discounts for volunteer groups !

Just got mine last night. Rooted/recovery/ThundeROMed it this morning. I can't believe how much faster this is than my similarly rooted/ROMed Moment. The free deal going on right now is definitely quite appealing. I actually bought mine off contract from eBay for $180 plus shipping so that I wouldn't use my upgrade on hardware I could afford myself. My thinking was that I would wait to use my upgrade on a high-end phone once one came out that I liked (Nexus S, if it was upgrade-eligible, perhaps...), but after playing around with this phone, I think I can definitely hold off on that for a while.

Ok, disclaimer first. This is my first smart/android phone and I love it! I have had it for a week and have nothing but great things to say about it. I am still learning how everything functions, and I am learning to be careful where I put my fingers on it, otherwise I accidently do something unintentional--matter of fact I bet this is where a lot of the 'errors' come from with this phone (things disappearing, etc). Love it, love it!

I got my girlfriends 14yr old daughter one the other night.
First smartphone and Android phone. As much as i didn't think it was very wise to get her an Android phone as I will be supporting it all the time, I have a hard time suggesting a normal phone to anyone.

So I showed her how to use it quick and she liked it and said get me one. lol
we will see how she likes it over the weeks.
The screen is a little small for me to type on since I have an Evo, but it feels more responsive screen wise at the least then my Evo. Matter of fact it sees more FPS then the Evo.

just got mine and got it activated. Its so much smoother then my modded Hero. Just rooted it now and am going to flash the rom in a minute :-)

The only thing I don't like about this phone is that LG and Sprint in there infinitesimal wisdom decided to put Froyo on a phone with an ARM6 processor.
No Flash player support!!! I guess SkyFire for browser.
Sprint does have good customer service now. Have had sprint since 1997....
