After having my Rezound less than 3 days and experiencing a myriad of issues...terrible connectivity, charging port, intermittent back lights on menu buttons...I was ready to either throw the device into the Pacific or go jump on the 2 for 1 Motorola Razr deal. A rare momentary flicker of reason fell out of the sky and thumped my melon. After going to the Verizon store and getting a new device all seems to be well and this phone is performing in stellar fashion. I know it is because it burns through a battery like Grant through Richmond only this time it's fun. Now it is off to enjoy that set up thread so I can see some different programs and apps to check out.

For clarity, did you get the Razr(BOGO) or swap for another Rezound?

Ahhh...clarity...it was a long day yesterday:eek: I got another Rezound as the promo for the Moto's was over and I sincerely wanted this device to be what I thought it should be based on the research I did. So far I have not been disappointed. There is really nothing else I wanted. So far so good.

That's good I thought we were gonna have to file forum eviction papers if you got the Razr :p. It's nice to return a lemon for something that actually works.. Hope it stays that way for you.

Hate to hear about dud phones right out of the box but glad you gave it another try. To me this phone has been an absolute beast! Couple that with the dev's that came over to this device from the Inc and I couldn't be happier.

Have you given any thought to rooting the phone? If done for the right reasons it can really add to the enjoyment of the device...some of the tweaks the developer's make to their ROM's make you think "duh! why didn't HTC think of that?"

I certainly have, Wanda. Considered rooting my DInc, DInc2, TBolt, and this one. I am just not very tech savvy and dread owning a 600.00 paperweight. I did come across a temporary root vid on You Tube and wondered about that concept. Certainly have considered it, though.

I just said this in another thread but I believe many of the people who say they conaider it but don't b/c they aren't tech saavy, would surprise themselves. Following the lingo is tougher to learn than the unlock/root processes. If you can read, you can root.

It is alarming to me to read on all the Rezound forums about people who have to go through 2-3 phones or more to get one that works right. Over on xda some are on their 4th or 5th one. Are there that many duds out there or are these just the rare exceptions? I'm on my original Dinc, bought online the 2nd or 3rd day it was out, and have had zero issues from day 1.

I had 2 full retail box replacements on the rezound. My current one seems to be working fine. Hopefully, if any more issues come up, it will happen soon during my 90 day return period since I bought the Rezound for $ 50 on upgrade back in November.

With that said, I had the thunderbolt before and had 2 replacements as well, all 3 had random shut down issues and didn't hold data as well as my Rezound.

Did you buy from VZW? I thought their return policy was 14 days.

What was wrong with the first 2 that they had to be replaced?

I bought it from Costco, hence 90 day return period . I posted about the issues before, hot pixel, staticy noise when playing music, random restart, staticy noise in calls

One need only look at production and the accompanying values to understand why so many of these devices fail. These phones cost a carrier virtually nothing. Phones are not how these companies make their money. They are the handles that Gillette gives you so you can pay 23.00 for a few blades that fit it. If these phones were what they were supposed to be the carriers wouldn't need 14 day exchange policies and 1 year limited warranties. We are the suckers and we shell out a fortune to wear that crown. These phones are just mass-produced junk from a third world country. All we can do when we get one is hope. That's what I am doing now.

I shall put away my soapbox now...:D

The Rezound is made in the Republic of China, and it is a gray area at best to call it a third world country.

Even items made in the US typically have return periods and warranties.

Lol...ok...the junk is made in an Asian country with no middle class...

I don't think that the phones cost the carrier virtually nothing, amazon sold the phone for a penny within 2 weeks of release, and I am sure that verizon must have paid amazon something. Not to mention, the cost of the phone. I don't know the cost to manufacture the rezound, but the BOM of the thunderbolt was $262. Of course, Verizon makes it up in the monthly costs and more, but my point is that these phones certainly cost verizon something.

I don't consider over 50% middle class to be "no middle class". Arguably, i believe that statistic was from the late 90s and things could have changed since then, but I would not say it has no middle class.

Lol...before this degenerates into some frabbing debate on the bourgeos vs. the proletariat, I'll try and pull us back on topic.

I never considered myself "tech savvy" when I rooted my Inc. I was terrified of screwing it up much like everyone else. Rooting the Rezound has more steps in the process than the Inc but it isn't anything out of the reach of someone who can follow the instructions to the letter.

Rooting opens up many other possibilities for the phone that wouldn't exist otherwise. For example, I had Senes 3.5 (thats the version that runs natively on the Rezound) months ago...also had ICS running on the Inc months ago. Not everything was perfect but it was absolutely above anything Verzion and HTC were going to do with it. The Rezound is pretty much the same way. People have a very workable and enjoyable ICS running, Sense 3.6, I think I've even seen Sense 4.0 somewhere in the works.

At the very least you can root and rid yourself of the stuff you don't want that Verizon thinks we all must have....like I'm EVER going to use VZ Navigator when I have Google Maps with turn by turn direction.

Really it isn't difficult and like humpedagardennome said, just learning the jargon is the hardest part...the actual process isn't all that tricky. The only way to REALLY brick up the phone beyond what most people could repair is to start messing with the radio's, something I don't recommend if you don't absolutely know what your doing. Beyond that the root process is easy and completely reversable.

EDIT: LOL...I see I'm too late to stop the debate, that darn dpham00 can type fast!

Ya think?

Look I am trying to toss a bit of humor into this, but the bottom line is that I am willing to wager that this 25.00 device, if that, is just junk that is mass produced in some foreign country where costs are minimalized and profits actualized and multiplied and the people working there, gauging from the finished product, are not totally invested in their objective.

Wanda...the debate was over before it started. So, with the phone under warranty, is the original system retrievable and any mods undetectable?

What is your basis for your claim that the phone costs 25 dollars? HTC probably pays more than that to Microsoft and Qualcomn in patent license fees alone. What's the cost of the SOC, LCD screen, RAM, flash memory? It certainly is not 25 dollars.
