Thunderbolt battery life

A week after I get the Thunderbolt, which is my first Android, I'll be going on an out of state (family emergency) trip.

I'll need the phone to last all day and will only use it for phone calls for pickups and rides.

Is this possible on an Android phone? I've heard (mostly on CrackBerry.com) that the Android batteries die after 4-5 hours.

If I disable widgets and refreshing, will the phone last me 8 hours with only light calling?

Thanks for any insight.

Best way to learn how to avoid this is just shutting off 4G which will keep your phone on 3G bands. If you don't want any data running through the phone and just want to focus on the calling you can disable 3G as well and just take calls only through the general 2G phone connections.

That's a great idea! Thank you!

Also, make sure you shut off the automatic data refreshing (regardless of 2G or 3G). Make sure you turn off Wi-Fi when you are not near a Wi-Fi hot spot, and use the WiFi for data services instead of 3G if it's available. It'll use less battery.

You can also adjust your screen brightness to keep it low. Heavy text messaging will also kill your battery.

You can keep your phone going without any charging if you do all of those things and don't use any data.

Won't be texting. Just need to use voice.

Man HTC needs to address this in the future. Why make a phone with all these great abilities, then put a battery inside that forces you to turn them off?

I agree. My BlackBerry would make it no problem. But, the less than stellar batt life is a trade off for a better browser for me. I think it's worth it bc I use my phone in place of a computer.

But I admit, going on this trip so soon after getting my 1st Android is making me nervous!

As long as you are not "Heavily using" your phone, ie angry birds and constanly checking and posting to Facebook... you should be fine. What is going to kill your battery is lighting up that monster screen and pulling data off the network with all your "widgets". Turn off GPS and bluetooth if you are not using it helps.

Invest in a extended batt. It will make your phone look awful but it will be needed if your going to be heavily browsing the web.

I am going to get the car battery right away. A friend of mine says she is always charging her EVO 4 G in the car or off the computer...this way she can make it through the day.
