Is it possible that a single core processor is faster than a dual core?
My thunderbilt is faster than my xoom....
A friend of mine says he's seen benchmarks that show that in some cases a fast single core is faster than a dual core..

My other question is has anyone found a hardshell case that can hold the thunderolt with the extended battery?

Single cores are not faster than dual cores. However, depending on what other parts are used (such as the speed of the flash memory) or what software used (HTC's Sense is fast OEM software) it might feel faster.

Since there are practically no apps that take advantage of multithreading, dual cores aren't necessarily faster than single cores either.

That's my point having dual core is in part marketing if the software being run isn't designed to use dual core.....
Like having a quad core desktop unless the app us multi threaded the other cores are idle..

The thunderbolt having a simikar ghz for ghz CPU as the x is sooooo much faster

Part marketing, part chicken-and-egg problem. Who would take the time to make a multithreaded app without a multicore phone? Very few.

Eventually dual core will be faster and more energy efficient. Just not now.

Yes, it's vary common for a single core to be faster than a dual core. Especially if the dual core doesn't have about 1.5-2 times the amount of RAM as the single core. A lot of RAM goes to just keeping the second core "alive", before any work is actually done. Just like in computers, quantity of RAM is KING in most cases, with everything else taking a back seat to the overall performance experience.
