Thunderbolt occasionally runs at 10X battery drain at idle

The battery life on my TB has been pretty consistent lately and I've learned how to deal with it. My battery usually idles at around 40mA.

But sometimes, for no reason (no new app installs, no changed usage), my battery shows a 200-300mA drain at idle. (I'm using battery monitor widget)

I used to think this was because 4G was acting up, but once started, this drain will continue, overnight for example, until I do a restart. 4G wouldn't be bad for 8 hours straight.

Again, this can happen when I do nothing different with my phone before going to bed.

Yeah, I've seen the same thing. When it's happening, it only happens when I've got 4G enabled. If I disable 4G, it connects to 3G and goes back to 40 mA. But if I switch back to 4G, I would get 250-300 mA. Rebooting would fix it.

I upgraded to the pro version of Battery Monitor Widget so I could put the current graph in a widget because I got sick of opening the app to see if the phone was running out of control.

I have the same problem you have, intermittent, and must do a restart to fix. One thing you can do is to use juice defender to shut off data when your screen is off.

I've also had it happen where with data off, it would use 360ma, unfortunately, there's nothing that would fix that without a restart.

My experience exactly.

When I had my Tbolt, I would get this as well, but I am not in a 4G area. I even had my phone set to 3G only. Drove me from my Tbolt to another phone. It was kinda the straw that broke my back, not knowing if I was gonna be able to make it through the day when just idling. Hope you guys get a fix for it.

Its the lte network acting up. Even if your data is off it will still do it. I've been running 3g for a week now and have had no mystery current draw episodes.

Is this something new you have been experiencing? Since the first week I got the phone I've been managing the battery pretty well, so I get through the day without issue...but the past two days it has been dead by 2pm with the same (less, actually) usage on average. I chalked it up to the recent software update but it seems like something else is going on.

What battery monitor widget do you use?
