Thunderbolt Sim card question

Im considering purchasing the htc thunderbolt. I know that in order to access the verizon 4g network, they require you to use a SIM card that comes with the phone. However, I will be going overseas, and am wondering if i can buy a prepaid 3g SIM card from the country abroad and use the phone that way.

Unfortunately, no. The TB only has CDMA and LTE radios. No world phone radios under the hatch. It's an LTE SIM slot only. :\
