Thunderbolt spontaneous reboot while sleeping

I had my alarm set and felt like i should have been awake and looked at my thunderbolt to see why the alarm had not gone off yet. It was in the middle of restarting and on the thunderbolt screen. I became hopeful of receiving an update but can't find any changes. Anyone know why the phone would reboot on its own?

There can be several reasons for rebooting the most common being a software conflict.
