time input wheel driving me crazy ICS

Hi guys hope you are well. Just 'upgraded' from an s2 to a samsung nexus ....not sure about it now tho...I have no idea who thought this up but the time input wheels are so irritating on the calendar and alarms.... Is there any way of simply entering a time in calendar and alarms using a keypad? Please help this is a big problem...takes ages to get the time correct! Why oh why have they changed this...

You can highlight the number you want to change (but it's tricky!), and then use the keyboard.

You can highlight the number you want to change (but it's tricky!), and then use the keyboard.

It seems like double tapping the number lets you highlight, and pulls up a numbers keyboard.
