time resets itself and no option to manually set date and time

Hi,

I recently received an LG optimus f3 with android 4.1.2.

After activating the phone, it displayed the correct date and time for my time zone, so I didn't mess around with settings to reset the time, as I would with any other device.

However, I've noticed that the time changes to exactly an hour ahead, before changing itself back several minutes later.

I went to settings > date and time, but 24 hour time and selecting a date format are the only options listed.

I prefer to leave mobile data off when I am at home and can use the wi-fi. Is it necessary to have mobile data turned on, so the phone can receive the time from a cell tower, or is there a way I can set an internal clock?

If so, where would I go to set the time, as the date and time settings are no help?

Thanks.

chances are good it's one of 2 things that were not set up correctly.

Either the wrong timezone was selected, or daylight savings time is not set correctly.

Mobile data won't effect the clock, especially if you have wifi enabled. For now, double check that you have location enabled, Turn the phone off, remove the SIM card, and wait a minute or 2 before turning it back on. Don't worry if the clock is suddenly very wrong. let it sit for a few minutes. Turn the phone back off and remove the battery if possible. Again, let it sit a few minutes with no battery or SIM. Now, re-insert your battery and SIM card, and turn it back on. This SHOULD force the phone to re-aquire proper location and get the clock back to how it should be.

If this doesn't correct the problem you'll have to go through the phone set up process again, making sure that you select the proper timezone and daylight savings time (if applicable).

Well, I tried all of that. Location was already on, so I removed the SIM card and battery and then put everything back together.

For a moment I was hopeful because it did display a completely incorrect time and the date was displayed as January 1st, so I was hoping that it was resetting. But then it went to the one hour ahead time again.

You're probably right about the location settings being an issue, because my weather app (which has my zip code) always displays the correct time.

The phone now seems to be stuck an hour ahead, and isn't switching back and forth occasionally like it used to.

Perhaps something with daylight savings time was affected? I cannot find anywhere in settings to change that, though.

Well, I spoke too soon. It is changing, but it seems like the correct time is displayed a lot less often than the incorrect one, which is the opposite of how it was before.
