So you're coming from an S7 running a 3rd party launcher and you're used to that little search bar that works across everything on your device, including files, right? And you get your shiny new S8 and expect it to be there, right? Boom. It's not there.

First, the 'why?'. Turns out Samsung moved the finder bar to a new home: the app drawer. That 'universal' search that used to be atop your notification bar when expanded, is now a search bar atop of the app drawer.

Second, the 'problem'. Since now it lives in the app drawer, if you use a 3rd party launcher (like Nova), you're missing out on that feature because the search bar there is just for apps.

Third, the 'solution'. So what to do? Simple(ish): Open Finder and in the settings, ask it to include an app shortcut in your app drawer. You can either go into TouchWiz and open Finder from the search bar on the app drawer or if you don't want to leave your launcher of choice, add an 'Activity' on your home screen (like a Widget) and find the Finder app. You can either activate the app drawer 'shortcut' or just leave the Activity shortcut on your homescreen or keep both.

It's not perfect, but at least it lets you use that very useful device-wide search function.

Hope it helps! Enjoy your new phone! :)
