I use my fascinate all day, emails, web some video, but it only makes maybe 8-10 hours. I am very aggressive with my task manager and kill apps like a religion. I tried many home apps, and no real change was noticed.

Does Rooting help with battery life, and if so which rom/package have noticably the longest?

Rooting gives you a lot more options to improve battery life. The whole process is very organic. Some phones run dreamy on Super Clean, some don't (like mine, silky smooth, but no help with battery) At the very least it will give you more room to tinker with stuff.

Try to back off on th app killing... the Fascinate is designed to have apps run in the background and ready to go when you call on them. it is actually more efficient for the battery to let the Fascinate do its thing, instead of constantly killing apps that are going to start back up on their own.

+1 the task killing is most likely what is killing your battery life more than anything

if you get addicted and become a flash whore like sheepy then your battery will suck. let me put it to you this way. i have 3 batteries.

Im rooted and am running sonofskywalker3's blackhole 4.3 rom. Im LOVING this thing. So far i've gotten 1 day an 14 hours of use with 60% battery remaining. This is the best froyo rom i've tried by far considering im a fairly moderate phone user (lots of internet, then wifi and 3g off when not in use, a few phone calls a day, and a lot of texting.)

Oh and im also running the nitro dark eclipse theme.

It's all about how/what you use on the phone. I've had zero complaints about battery life on mine since day 1. I unplug in the morning and back in before bed (~18 hours off charger) and have anywhere from 40-60% remaining then. My phone is a work tool for me so I use it pretty heavily throughout my day. But I also keep it very clean. Only 1 home screen with 1 widget. Email polls every 5 mins, weather every 30, everything else every couple hours. Nothing else is running unless I'm using it. I can't compare to non rooted as I've never run that way for more than an hour or so. My mother has one as well which is also rooted and she usually only charges hers every other night. Granted she uses it a lot less, I've seen it go for 3+ days before. My girlfriends on the other hand, is loaded with tons of widgets and $#!*(pretty things) and shes on it constantly using internet, gps, games, etc. Her life is certainly less, but still acceptable to her. She too only charges at night, for the same times as mine, but when she plugs in she NEEDS to.

I use my fascinate as an MP3 player so my battery last for a day. Now I set my email, twitter, weather and taptalk to update every hour. And pulse to update every 3 hours.

Although I think it might be better in the rooted world, its not the battery nirvana that I was hoping for. I am happy to have all of the bloatware off my phone though.

the fascinate was my first smart phone so naturally i downloaded a buttload of apps initially. my battery was horrible and i thought it was just the phone. it literally would drain 50% + while sleeping.

When I rooted life improved so dramatically and i realized it was the crap i had on the phone, not the phone itself. With flashing new versions, ive had mixed results...sometimes you get good life, then next flash you won't. Sooo, if you are not happy with the battery life, id see if you can factory reset your phone and see if it helps with stock software. If it doesn't then maybe try a custom rom
