Titanium Backup needs root? I'm about to root...suggestions?

I'm about to attempt rooting my TB and I understand it wipes all my information. I downloaded Titanium Backup and it says it will not work because it needs root. (Catch 22)

Did I download the correct program? If so, how can I backup everything before I root. Or do I just have to suffer through reinstalling everything manually after my first root and then install Titanium Backup for future ROM updates?

You are correct. Titanium Backup requires root. I would get something like My Backup from the market until you are rooted to save your apps and settings.
