To all rooted Galaxy S2 users!!

I'm curious about rooting this phone because I actually had rooted my EVO and loved it! So I'm curious who is rooted and what are your thoughts on rooting this phone and what differences have you seen? Please help me out with this cause I'm really interested in this phone and having it rooted.

It's awesome and well worth it. Makes your phone seem new (especially if you put on a beta ICS ROM).

I'd check out Calkulin's ROMs. Make sure you read instructions carefully.

I really think it is difficult to not root a phone once you have done it, barring a traumatic experience or brick on the first try.

These are my thoughts:

The first phone I rooted, I rooted because the phone needed it. The phone was slooooowwww to update, was missing features, rooting provided some bug fixes and got rid of that pesky bloat. This phone is pretty much prefect out of the box. I really can't see anything wrong with it to root it for the reasons I did my first phone.

With that being said; rooting this phone really shows you how awesome of a phone Samsung has made. This is the best phone available right now. Sure it isn't pure google but who cares by rooting you can remove all that and run pure AOSP if you want. I love being able to back everything up with root, I love being able to modify or uninstall system apps or features, and I love have choices with my phone.

I would almost gauruntee that if you love your Evo rooted, you will love your Samsung GSII rooted.

When I rooted my epic I did it a different way because SFhub's method wasn't available. His method is stuck on the top of this forum by the way. It is a simple one click method.

I would have to echo what everyone else has said. I also had my EVO rooted and just loved the extra speed you got out of it then the customization was a plus.

I said I wouldn't root this phone because I started to run into some weird bugs with my EVO toward the end but broke down and did it, the E4GT community seems just as big, if not bigger than the EVO community. For example the last 2 days there has been a new ICS build leak and it is going fast! It is really hard to keep up.

There are many stable roms as well if you don't want to jump into alpha/beta ICS (I still haven't). Either way just take your time and do your research! Everything I have used was on XDA.

Yeah things were different early on, particularly before sfhub came along. The way to root early on was to flash a rooted kernel using Odin. This was a bit of a challenging time for our phone as root was being blamed for the Loss of Service bug that was going on. As it turned out, it was just a bad Samsung kernel, and worse kernel source code. The LOS bug was fixed in the EK02 official update.

Anyhoo, sfhub came along and created a sweet tool that made root a snap, and you didn't have to use Odin. This was awesome while it lasted, but the EL13 firmware build, which was finalized with EL29 (which is the current firmware version) closed the exploit his tool used to inject root.

Enter his Odin one-click package, which is linked in the sticky at the top of this forum. It is essentially the equivalent of using his autoroot tool (the end result is anyways) and it is definitely the best way to gain root currently, and will probably continue to be from here on out.

You need to download a file explorer with root permissions. I recommend root explorer(cost money) or Es file explorer(free). If you use ES File explorer you just have to go into the app settings and give it root permissions. Then navigate to system/app and delete that apps you don't want. You can also you titanium back or my backup pro to delete system apps.

I personally never removed bloatware, I froze it instead using MyBackup Pro. Once you freeze the app it will no longer show up in your app drawer

I like to go by the "out of sight, out of mind" mentality

I've been rooting my phones since I had the EVO 4G as well and mainly root for better battery life. When I first got my EVO, the battery life was pretty horrible but after I rooted it (flashed a custom kernel and used SetCPU to tweak it) my battery life was much much better.

With the E4GT I mainly root for newer OS updates (running ICS right now) and making my phone run smoother.

So you can unfreeze them and easily accept an OTA/update.

The device is great stock but just screams to be rooted. Development is great and the availability of custom ROMs makes the device feel fresh.

Just as a big FYI (or warning), use caution if you (OP) decide to flash an ICS ROM. Read the instructions thoroughly and look through threads discussing ways you can Brick the device so that you can avoid ending up with a paperweight.

Yeah I want to try out a ICS ROM but read that sticky up top and got me worried so I'm just going to put ICS ROMS on hold for a bit.
