Moving to a new Carrier can be a expensive move, laced with arguments and problems-and losing big bucks. Im hoping to find a few Droid X users that were in similar circumstances as I am now, and get some solid direction out of this.

I live in Columbus, Ohio,43209- I subcribe to and am getting ripped off by AT&T, and my Blackberry 9700 is completely screwey, flakey, I have Wifi Issues, Connectivity Issues, Email issues, and all of a sudden the famous BB Red Clock Issues. Its not the Phone its the network. My son lives with me has a Iphone 3G/S and has absolutely -0- problems, actually this past june he said, "My IPhone is working better than ever"!

My problems occur and are amplified, every time there is a new piece of Apple Equipment released on AT&T, I had no problems in the beggining, now Im drowning with all sorts of issues, and AT&T is of no help! They suck, they have a insatiable appetite for money, and because a few dishonest people have ripped them off, they treat everyone as though they were thieves. Im not a thief, and I will not be treated like one.

So the big question is, The Droid X, how does it compare to the Apple IP4? Also How does Verizon compare to AT&T.

I am not a Apple Fan either, The display of the IP4 is no question "Drop Dead Gorgeous" But Apple has a strangle hold on Apple Products, the door is slammed shut tight to consumers, and in my opinion Apple has once again forgotten about the "Value of a customer", they have a strangle hold on their customers as well, they are a bunch of liars, and because Jobs doesnt like "Flash" all apple users cant have it. Lets not fool ourselves, they charge through the rear end for apple products, they are by no means cheap, they are Expensive Acquisitions, and Cost to Worth is many times questionable. I wish Apple would treat their customers the same way they show their love for money, it would be a better world then.

Oh, by the way, How Much would a IP4 cost me? $500.00 +connect fee, + new 2 year contract- This infuriates me to no end, I have established my phone has not and continues not to perform correctly, There is no question I have a defective "Something" and AT&T will not Budge when it comes to the IPhone 4, they hide behind Apples Skirt and say, "We cant help you, Apple will not permit it" "We cannot make any adjustments for a customer when it involves Apple Products"

I have gone into both Apple and Verizon and played with both the IP4, and the Droid X, and I continue to lean towards the Droid X, over the IP4. The only thing that moved me on the Apple IP4 was the Retina Display, but Im willing to bet that given a few more "cycles" of new equipment releases, Droid will put the Apple Retina Display in the trash can, and exceed those specs. The Android Platform is so different from Blackberry and Apple, its hard to digest in a 20 or 30 minute looksee visit at the local Verizon store.

I also hear there is a Droid XPro just around the corner, that probably will blow the barn doors off the IPhone. Anyone know anything about that? Faster Processor 1.5gighz?

Also the new Froyo 2.2 will it increase or optimise the X's performance on the web as well?

So, I appreciate the opportunity to post here and hope to fine info that will help me finalise my decision-

Thank you

-Larry

The iPhone 4's display may be higher resolution, but you will not complaining with a Droid X screen. Seriously.

When I had 2.2 on my Droid X, browsing the web simply felt like a more complete experience because everything would actually be there for a change. No big empty spaces where a flash video was supposed to be. Simply seeing the content there makes for an improvement in experience.

Well, one thing, at least FOR NOW, is that the verizon data plan is not tiered per use of gb of data. That's a big advantage to me, I hate having to worry about how much data I've used...of course, a check in the con side would be that you generally have to pay an extra $20/month for wifi tethering(assuming you use the phone strictly stock)...

I have to admit, the "retina" display is nice. If my x didn't just do everything for me already, I might have to pick up a new itouch. But, the previous poster is right; you will NOT be disappointed in the slightest with the x screen. Retina may have more density and therefore appear richer and more vibrant in certain circumstances, but the x is definitely not too far behind, and it's miles above any bb screen, even the torch. Seriously, MILES above.

I think the bottom line is this-
1.) It sounds like you are fed up with AT&T
2.) It sounds like you have a predisposition against the way apple operates

So, it seems that you would be down to the x, fascinate, EVO, or epic, or droid 2. All I can say is, as an x owner and former crackberry owner and an apple initiate, the droid x is 100% doing it for me. Any little buggy things on it usually get solved in this forum. Other than that, a+
Check ' em all out though, it's worth it to find the best thing for you.

Tapatalk is a droid app that makes forums like this one much easier to browse and reply. The forum admins have to setup Tapatalk to allow it to work, but many droid forums work great. One formerly popular forum has it disabled at present.

Given the display is nice on the IP4, the resolution is so high its beyond what the human eye can see. The droid X has an amazing screen to me, given I have not used the iphone 4 for an extended period of time. You will be able to do so many more things with the X. Lots of users here on these boards switched from the iphone 4, myself from the 3gs. Perhaps their input would be better.

Yeah Tapatalk works great on this forum btw

look your best bet is pick your carrier first not your device go to the best coverage you can get or the best value with good coverage then pick a device if your a phone junkie like myself you device will last a year at most until something new you like comes out so your bound to the carrier long than you device

I appreciate your comment and I have done that, My Zip is 43209 on Lakewood Road in Columbus, Ohio, I have run the Coverage Maps for AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon and Sprint. They all indicate MAXIMUM coverage/reception for Data and Voice-

Actually, and this is the "Mind Blower" AT&T is also the "Best Coverage" but according to AT&T numerous users in my area (Blackberry) have reported and AT&T has confirmed there is a serious service degradation in my area. When you ask them what they intend to do, their response is the same as all 4 carriers, "Our Engineering/Technical/Repair staffing are working on it"

Whats even more funny, I went into AT&T retail store about 6 miles from my home and messed around wiith their Demo 9700, and it behaved Flakey the same as mine.

You found one. I could go on for hours about this as my phone is my lifeline for work capability, but I'll try to keep it simple.

As long as you are confident Verizon's CDMA network and signal is strong in your area, leave AT&T freely and don't look back. In most areas (including my city) it is significantly better than AT&T's network. Verizon's customer service is no better or worse than any other carriers, by the way.

My wife has an iPhone4 and I have the X. You couldn't pay me to switch. Both screens are beautiful; the "retina" display angle is nothing but a marketing technique. The iPhone 4 is small and feels like its made for a woman. In contrast the X has weight, size and feels like a serious piece of hardware, not a delicate glass of wine to be coddled and caressed. The X's larger display makes web surfing 10X better. iOS is archaic and absolutely stupid compared to the customization abilities of Android. Email productivity is just as good as on my former BB Bold 9000 and I have never been more mobile from a work standpoint. If you need to review any docs, go X over iPhone4 every day of the year.

Unless you want to PLAY with your phone and do Facetime, there is absolutely no reason to even consider Apple until they totally overhaul their entire OS.

I paid a $375 ETF to get away from AT&T and I was more than happy to do so. The wife and I both switched from BB 9700's to DX's.
I'm totally happy with my DX. So is she.
Actually, I am BEYOND totally happy with my DX because my DX goes way beyond what my 9700 could do for me. The ability to share multiple Google calendars is by far one of the most important features. It can sync and share multiple calendars out of the box without some POS google app that always stops syncing for some reason that BB requires. Connecting to multiple exchange servers is a plus also. Gmail accounts actually sync pretty much instantly! No waiting around for the BIS to eventually sync it. I have spent less money on apps for my DX and have more apps for my DX. There are so many things the DX will do out of the box or with a $2 app that Blackberry charges $10 for a similar app. I have awesome 3G coverage in places that AT&T provided little or no coverage at all much less 3G. I've found my Verizon 3G experience to be much better that AT&T's 3G. Again, as zombiepug pointed out, make sure Verizon will cover you well. If not, there's no point in switching.

Well put.
I spend no time "wanting" anything iPhone. It is an AT&T deal and their overall coverage and service is sub-par.
It's like thinking about buying a Ferrari while living on a small Island with no roads.
Get what works for the carrier you plan to go with. It is hard to beat Verizon's coverage.....actually, you can't (for now).

me and my fiance also just made the switch from at&t to vzw they have the best recpetion in nj i wish sprint had better service they have the best prices and if you have good sprint coverage i think i would go that route but its your call good luck though!

...i wish sprint had better service they have the best prices...

Yeah, I wish vzw had the Simply Everything plan, I loved that about Sprint, but the coverage was unusable for work, had to return my phone after a few days and stayed with verizon.

I wish I had better Sprint service here too. I had a work issued BlackBerry about a year ago that doubled as my pager. IT WAS HORRIBLE! I usually just rolled all of my stuff over to my personal AT&T BlackBerry to get things done! My company finally dropped Sprint and went to AT&T for service after about 16 months of staff complaining. I'm not sure how many Sprint devices we had, but i know it was at least a couple of thousand.
