To charge, or not to charge

I always heard it's not good for battery longevity to charge it unless it drops below say 25-30%. My G4 used to get two solid days on a charge, but now more like 1 1/2. Now, I am often faced with a battery at just over 50% at the end of the day, and always wonder if I should charge it overnight, or let it go really low by the end of the next day when it starts giving me low battery warnings and then charge it.

There are a lot of theories about when a battery should be charged. Personally, I would charge the phone when needed and try not to worry so much about it.

Not too worried, but often hit the battery warning when it's not convenient to charge it, usually driving home at the end of the day but don't need it as much. Thought charging it daily @ around 50% would take long term life off the battery, as much s letting it go to 5% before charging it on a semi-daily basis. Just a little dilemma ;).

Lithium batteries aren't affected by short charge cycles. Everything else being equal, charging twice at 50% is the same as charging once when it's empty. There are other considerations too. The two biggest are being left at full, or low charge levels. Being under about 25% will have the biggest impact if I'm not mistaken. I wait until between 30-40% left before I plug in most of the time. If I know I'm going to be away from a plug for a while, then I'll top it off, even if it already has a good charge.

Battery University has tons of good info on how charging and charge levels affect battery life.
