Does it actually make it louder or just add more steps to the existing range?

There are two options available one is just adding more steps to the volume and that is available in G3 tweakbox.

Or option two is over at XDA and involves using root explorer to head into your system folder and replace the file with the one downloaded at XDA and changing the permissions.

Or you could have them both.

The XDA thread he mentioned involves replacing the XML_Mixer file in sys\etc (or editing your original) which will boost both speaker and headphone volume.

BEWARE: The Verizon G3 has some unstable results with touching/replacing this file and should not be tampered with until a stable method arrives.

I am using RHA750's and I have noticed a difference in volume using the adding more steps....could be that placebo effect again though....-P

However I will now hearing that it doesn't replace the mixer paths....cheers for the info XO I could have swore there was a difference..lol Dam placebo but I may not as its plenty loud enough as is

Edit..Can I ask what is the point of adding more steps if it doesn't increase volume?

Ask yourself this question: Would you rather have 10 different volume levels to choose from or 2 (loud and mute)? With his enabled you can fine-tune the volume much easier.

I mainly rooted to uninstall bloatware. I left it was rooted for a little bit longer to try out some of the root apps. But i unrooted it because there is a new software update coming out soon for the g3 that i want

If I use Stumproot and then later at some point my phone has an update due how easy is it to un-root and can it be done using just the phone, IE not having to use my home pc or laptop. Likewise if I need to send the phone to LG for warranty will un-rooting it clear all evidence that it was rooted?

I need something easy for two reasons, one is that I'm dyslexic so reading detailed directions can be hard and especially hard when combined with the second reason which is that I'm not very tech minded.

Yeah, I'm interested in the Un-rooting to get an update too. Supposedly when the update from 4.4.2 occurs, they are going to patch the hole that allows towelroot to work.. then it will be harder to root afterwards.

What's the difference between towelroot and stump?

I also played around with rooting an android phone.

Your phone is much clearer and you don't have such stupid pre-installed apps.
There are also some functionality advantages but since I read about android virus and malware I won't give new roms a chance to collect my data.

The big advantages you had with the root version are also nearly gone with Android version > 4.3

Talk about collecting your data, AT&T customers, and maybe Verizon's too, have the data collection /reporting app called Carrier IQ imbedded. Google that if you don't know about it. That alone is a good reason to root.

Verizon does not have IQ Carrier on G3.

I was able to increase the sound with the XML hack on my Verizon G3 with no issues and it works great. My headphones are really loud now. The biggest thing to remember is to 're-set the file permissions after editing.

How difficult was it to un-root? I was reading at XDA it's kinda of unstable to reflash the phone back to stock.

You don't have to root to move most of the bloatware. You can just disable apps. Works fine. I don't see any reason to root until a custom recovery is available. That's just me though.

Yeah, some people have had success with this, others have not. Could you send me a copy of your xml file? I want to see if it's the same as mine. If so, perhaps I'll do the hack.

I only changed the headphone volume. I didn't touch the speakers as I thought they were loud enough.

I am, as people from Verizon have reported different-looking files for the same G3 phone. This scares me, and I know my way around editing files and making sure the proper rights are saved. I just want to be sure mine matches yours before I go editing. It would just be a waste of time if I have to reset.

I checked the file and it's exactly the same as mine (size and text), with just those changed values. I replaced mine and... BRICK!

There's AT&T stuff that you cannot remove, and there's Twitter and Facebook that you can't remove, and the dreaded carrier IQ. Carrier IQ is something I don't even want "disabled". I'm sure they have some code that can ignore the disable toggle. Plus I paid fulol price for this thing! I don't want their garbage all over the machine I paid for. All I want is their cell service. Tell you what, no more LG for me in the future. they won't sell unlocked to me directly? I'm not getting it. Personally, although I like this phone, I'm going for the HTC M9 SIM-Unlocked, bootloader-unlocked.
