To the HTC One "premium build" supporters...

First off, to each his own. Everyone should get the phone they like. I'm not saying my view is the "right" opinion. The S4 will be my first non iPhone, as I've had them since the original. I hear a lot of people saying they prefer the One because of the "premium feel/build" due to the aluminum casing.

1. If you plan on putting the phone in a case, then why does it matter what it's made of? It could be made of greenish copper if it's just going to be covered. (I don't like phones in cases, so this is moot for me personally)

2. I actually feel like I had to be much more careful with my iPhone 5 and original iPhone (neither in a case) because they were aluminum. I actually have to think before I place do something as simple as place my iPhone 5 on a surface, making sure it won't get scratched. With the S4, I'm glad I won't have to treat the phone this way. And if the worst happens and the back gets damaged, I can replace it easily.

I played with the One in store the other day and just wasn't at all seeing what others do in that phone. Looks clunky and weird to me. Just my thoughts.

I'm switching over from an HTC one. I had mine for a month. I had used it A LOT and it still looked like new when I sold it yesterday. The build quality is really great on these - only sold it because the S4 has a drastically better SAR value.

That said - I've never had an issue with Samsung's build quality.

Just a question, but couldn't you get a metal back plate for the gs4?
Sure, it's not the same as unibody, but it gives you the metal feel

The GS4's primary competitors are the iPhone 5 and the HTC One, and from a pure design perspective that should make Samsung very, very nervous. Where Apple and HTC have both made beautiful, well-made, high-quality phones, the GS4 has Samsung back in the land of cheap, plasticky handsets. It looks for all the world like the Galaxy S III ? despite having a bigger screen and more horsepower, at 7.9mm and 4.6 ounces it's actually imperceptibly thinner and lighter than the S III. But copying the S III wasn?t a good idea.

Personally I don't see whats tthe big deal about the S4 being plastic is. I mean look at how strong plastic is now a days. I mean you don't go to a car lot and say " I don't like this car because it has plastic parts." Plastic is the way of the future unless they can make carbon fiber affordable to the masses.

Call me crazy but I picked the S4 over the One simply because of the feature where you can scroll with your eyes - whatever they are calling that. Just because - hey dude - that's cool! Ok - also I liked that the memory was expandable and i have access to the battery. I like options!

Let's be honest. They're both great phones. It boils down to what you personally prefer. I think you can't go wrong either way.I actually am going to get the One tomorrow due to the Galaxy S4 delay. I'll use it for the two week return period with Sprint and then get the S4. Then I'll decide. I'm sure I will be happy regardless.

I am the owner of a SIV and I like it ...but I think HTC & Samsung supporters are both missing the boat as far as build quality. Taking a look at the Oppo unit will shut us all down.

That's a minor factor when picking a phone. If you're using the phone for 20 months, I would rather just get the phone that gave the better experience.

If you flip phones every 6-12 months, then SAR value is a pretty big deal.

You know ... HTC One is the one using cheaper materials. You DO know that Aluminium is one of the cheaper and weaker and softer metal around? Anodizing helped with the hardness but not when it is so soft that it dents easily. On the other hand plastic composites has come a long way and can nowadays be designed to be tough, strong, hard and cheap, although usually not all at the same time. It has been used in combat helmet, top range tennis racket and kayak and many other similar applications that requires strength and durability.

Btw one sheet of aluminium is much cheaper than one equivalent sheet of mid grade ABS. Stevie Job really pulled a fast one when he hyped on about how the "machined" "aluminium" casing is premium, as if the CNC machine was invented by him and that Aluminium is worth its weight in gold.

I also have an HTC One phone, I like the build quality, feels really good, the sound is amazing, something I wish Samsung would do... put the speakers on the front of the phone, not the back. One downside to the HTC one is that you feel the heat coming from the processors when playing graphics intense games, map guidance or even charging the battery.
