To Update or to Root... that is the question.

I've had my phone for nearly a week now... first smartphone ever... and I'm really digging the Charge thus far.

I purposely had them NOT update the phone when I picked it up, in case I decided to root it after my 14-days were up. So far, the performance has been perfect for me... haven't had lag anywhere. The only issue I have seen has been dropping data on 3G about 3 times. Simply toggling to 4G and then back has resolved the issue always, so not a huge concern.

My question is this: I really don't know what I'm missing with the OTA updates. Should I expect increased performance? Better battery life? Better signal? etc?

I understand that if I download the OTAs, I can not root this phone... currently. I'm not sure that I even want to root it, but I like knowing that I have the option. That said, the phone does everything I need it to right now, if the OTAs are somewhat significant, I'm sure I'd be plenty happy just rolling with it as it is right now.

What say you?

well right now there is A OTA, and it was for 3g media downloading.. (nothing to help or hurt signal battery etc, but it as you know killed many of the Root methods Rooting your phone will today give you the option of removing bloat ware (freezing with Titanium backup) and a few fun tweaks... long term rooting will offer you alot of things, and to many users like myself it is almost a when not a "should I"

recommendations:
I would keep using your phone w/o the update until
A: you see a update that is widely considered "a must have" form Verizon, many of these updates can actually be reversed but it take a little work.

B: you read the rooted forums and see a "shiny thing" you dont think you can live without... then go for it

until you see one of these happen keep enjoying your phone. Congrats on your first smart phone you seem to be happy with it and not to many issues so kep on enjoying it!

Thank Jay... those are valid points.

As long as I'm not missing out on anything... I feel no need to update the phone. Just getting tired of being reminded of the update 4 times a day!
