I was going to root and follow the procedure to get the Froyo leak on my DROID Incredible until I read some poor guy's story. He yanked his battery too early during the radio update - I don't blame him though - the phone was stuck and taking too long. Now his phone is bricked! And this was confirmed by the XDA peeps. This isn't some newb not knowing how to 'unbrick' his phone. The only way to save his phone now was to do a manual hardware reflash by taking the phone apart and hooking it up to some special device with a special cable...things way beyond my interest or competence.
My question is: how many of you are going to sit this one out and wait until potentially August 15th (worst case scenario) or as early as August 1st to get the official INCREDIBLE FROYO?
I was an unfortunate BlackBerry victim for two years so I'm quite used to messing with the OS. Granted, I'm not rooted yet. And messing around with Java is different from a real Unix-based system. I'm not afraid to wipe-reflash-root-froyo, but at the same time, I don't want to have to unroot to get the official because I'm missing a few features.
Plus, now there are numerous reports of errors with this leak such as the ZERO problem with gmail and others. So it seems that this release isn't the final.
Any thoughts?
Trying to waste time, as usual...
