I have found detox 5 over on the xda site...this will be the first Rom attempt on this evo..a little nervous...mostly anxious about this change...so to further understand this change I am trying to lay out the what is to be simple instruction to avoid misinstalation of this Rom and avoid down time with this phone...its a daily tool an downtime is to be avoided.

1. D/L. Detox 5 from xda's site...
2. Mount the phone to the CPU and drag the zip to the SD, at the root level...
3. I use qwickboot...so set the phone to go into recovery...? Or do I install the Rom directly through my ROM Manager?........making sure to wipe the phone first? ....

Then I get a little lost...I want my apps of course....so do I then Rom manager the apps? That I backed up on my CPU?....

I think that most of this OS known as flashing...right....

1) Get Titanium Backup and backup all your apps & data
2) Follow your steps
3) Open ROM Manager, select install rom from zip card, choose your zip file, a pop up will show asking if you want to backup your current rom and erase data, select both.
4) install titanium backup on your new rom, restore your apps.

5) rock n' roll.

Oh forgot to mention that....yes I have ti backup and I have backed up the stock evo...then I erased all the bloatware from Sprint with ti backup.....then backed up data and apps and contacts again...keeping everything organized....I know I am missing a question though...will check back a little later...this switch will happen after work.....plenty of time...

I actually didn't know you could do that from ROM manager. I've only used the navigation after booting into recovery. Interesting... thanks thefred. =)

Is there a preferred way to backup the titanium app itself to quickly reinstall after a wipe? I thought maybe storing the apk on the sd card would work ok, but maybe there is another way?

that is exactly what I do to avoid the "market hangover" from switching to a new rom.

I mostly use CM and it comes with a file explorer program I use to browse over to the titanium apk on the sd card and install it from there.

If you don't have a file explorer you can actually install the apk via adb:

adb install /path/to/apk.apk

Ok so here is that question...lol...I knew of would hot sooner or later...
I noticed in the evo section on xda site that there are these themes...and this detox 5 is listed as a theme...so its not a Rom?....I'm confused...I also found this one titled dragon...it looks look too but again the Dec mentions theme....are they both just modifications for the stock evo GUI?

Themes go on top of ROMs, a rom has to be "deodexed" to accept theme files (in most cases).

Usually the theme thread will say what ROMs it will work with, you'll probably notice a lot (for MYN's, for CM6.1.1/2, for SENSE based ROMs, etc).

So if you really want your phone to look like those theme screen shots get the rom the theme works with and then install the theme on top of it.

Ahhhh clearity.....the Rom is like a person....the themes I'm looking at would be the clothes on top of the person....so I need a actually Rom first....

ya know some of this crap im running across is like really old....im kinda freaked to go through with my first flash...making sure that the rom i find is clockwork compatable....and so on...is there anything new hanging around?

ok well time to jump in with both feet.......im going with fresh evo 3.5.0.1...its the latest and greatest as far as i can tell....if it bricks or dosent install right i will be out a phone for atlease 12 hours...making for an interesting day till i can get back home after work and try to flash in cryongen or something else.....

gotta learn this some how...i have read and read....now its time....wish me luck.

when i installed rom manager it wanted to revert to 2.5.0.1 instead of 3.0.0.6 i bielive

Clockwork is actually 2.6.0.1

alright your good...just wanted to make sure you werent using the 3.x series...its having issues flashing any rom....clockwork 2.6.0.1 will be fine.

just make sure to backup and wipe and you should be good!
